I have to wonder now, is this a company I can trust. communication has been poor, the lack of information and deception with vague answers then this. I would get it if it was small incremental increases, or at least for the LE per orders 2,000 even 5,000 but 10,000. feels like such betrayal I feel like a fool following along and checking the forums daily. and if you wanted to stay in the 75k price range you have to down grad to a basic dual motor option lose your place in line when youve been waiting years already. Time to go back to ICE probably look at Jeep 4xe for my adventure vehicle.

Just sold my Rivian stock. Going to cancel my pre-order within a week if Rivian doesn’t come to it’s senses.
I was a March 2019 LE preorder. I looked at myself as an ambassador for Rivian. Explaining to my car buddies that the Rivian was not made by Ford or GM but by an American company that was “different” than what we’ve been used to. Alas, I was proven wrong. I should have realized this sooner with the poor communications record that Rivian had established.
I suspect that this move by Rivian may alienate 99% of the company fanboys. Me certainly included.
I just want Rivian to understand that in my opinion they handled this matter very badly. I suspect that damage has been done to their brand. Thankfully I have an early Lightning preorder from a dealer that will not go above MSRP.
So sorry to go Rivian..... it could have been better

Still haven't gotten the email about price increases. I must be grandfathered in at the lower price, right? I don’t care what the config says! ????

2008 Nissan Altima :( - Let's pick it up on production...
So I'm going to write a long winded reply that maybe 10 or 12 people will read. I will first say that the facts are different than the perception. From a PR perspective this is a massive failure. I am quite surprised they did that for LE holders - but remember, a $1000 REFUNDABLE deposit with fine print everywhere is just that. The waiting list is so long that they can ailenate the 2018-19 guys and it will not affect the bottom line. They'll just sell to the next person at higher cost. And the will, because:

They have a world beating product. (which they should've had a 2 year head start on the rest of the world for market share, but that one wasn't their fault)

Heres the unfortunate rub. This all came to a head and was exemplified in the Tax Credit thread. Most showed their colors by saying that MSRP cap or Income cap should stop (conveniently) just above their level. Americans have been voting that way for a while - (yes its about to get political) - thinking that they are gonna stick it to Bezos and Musk...nope its the middle/mid upper people that get the short end of the stick. By voting for corporate sales tax hikes and increasing the tax rates on personal income - they have real, tangible effects on the economy. The rampant inflation is a direct result of those policies voted (reminder- BOTH GUYS PRINTED TRILLIONS OUT OF THIN AIR). But now that we're in the realm of luxury goods - the prices fluctuate. 911s are 20k more MSRP than they were in 2019 (look at the GTS). The guys who normally spend 50k who said R1 are cool, ill stretch to 70 but I'm out now - you're seeing how the world really works.

Assuming Rivian Survives (they probably will) - what happened is they just cut out low margin buyers and are going to sell the same # of units at a higher cost. The shares dip today but see what they are June 10 or September 10. The big guys always win.

Once again, the way they handled it was startling but not surprising.
I am the guy you are talking about. March 19 preorder. Bought a Discovery in July 2019 for $42K and looked at it as a "rental" until the Rivian was delivered (1-2 years). I earn out of the EV credit, so it's never been a factor.

Initially expected a ~$72K price for the Rivian (when longer range and level 3 autonomy was what Rivian claimed). Went to $80K with options a little over a year ago when the configurator came out. A $17K jump to $97K for a truck just doesn't make sense to me anymore. Maybe it if actually was a capable as was first claimed and the range and driverless features were still there, I could justify it to myself. But now, my buddy's new F-250 King Ranch is looking like a better option. Or, just sit out of EVs a few more years as battery and autonomy tech improves.

At this point I feel like you can trust much of what these guys say. With their "advertising" being word of mouth from fans, and now a large number of those people are negative they are going uphill battle to pace new orders. Their market cap is a product demand in the form of pre-orders and future business. High Flyer, is an understatement. If they only want to focus on delivery vans and constantly negotiate terms with Amazon's purchasing department (not a fun time) I get it. But, sans some sort of major walk back (very unlikely), I don't see the R1S and R1T succeeding.

Haven't cancelled yet, but don't see a scenario where I actually go through with it when I get the call. Best of luck to those who do. I just don't feel good and proud of being connected with them anymore.

I guess I'll post a noobs perspective. Take it with a grain of salt as I just started following Rivian last week and just joined this forum this morning.

I placed my R1T deposit yesterdy AFTER the price hike and purchased stock this morning.

I don't have 3 years of history with the brand. To me, they're just another car company trying to make a buck. I have not been promised a firm purchase price, date or configuration in exchange for my $1k (not sure they promised any of you either) and I simply was not aware of the marketing kool-aid and thus did not drink it. I placed the deposit because the R1T is still compelling at the new price. It likely wont be two or three years from now but, eh, we'll see. I'm confident there will be at least one more price hike before I have the option to purchase.

I hurt for the early supporters - what a feeling of betrayal - but I believe this company will likely be just fine. Largely due to dumbasses like me who are just looking for a nice truck...

Just wanted to point out that this isn't a thing. People seem to be confused and think the BBB bill was passed. It wasn't, so we are still under the old regime of no income limits. (assuming you are talking in the U.S.)

I remember. I was one of the people invited to San Carlos to walk around the prototype. The price kept going up, problems kept coming up, the 2-speed transmission broke, the "put together in a garage by some enthusiasts" feel didn't improve, then the price went up and I said "$100K+ … I must be nuts?" Now, the Roadster II is a no-show … and the $50K deposit (or $250K for "Founders") peaked at over $1M in $TSLA equivalent value ("opportunity cost.")

Hi all, here is my (RIVIAN DAD) response to yesterday's news, in video form
SOOO many thoughts... My top 3 thoughts: 1 - wow that's a lot of money; 2 - why didn't they honor pre-order holder price! 3 - The delivery of this massive price jump was terribly done. RIVIAN - let's talk about it!! Call me!! (and yes, I've asked Rivian for interviews many times)

I did not either but checked with customer service. Apparently some of the emails just didn't get sent. But rest assured, unless you were previously contacted by a guide to lock your order you ARE paying the new prices.

Off the top of my head, I recall:

electrochromic roof
180 degree tailgate
Power-up tailgate
Lidar
Tank turn
Level 3 autonomous driving via OTA
OK, you don't mean any of these seriously. Not "tons of features" … and the sunglasses sunroof is hardly a dealbreaker. I wouldn't wait or pay for the rumored removable sunroof.

The two tailgate descriptions are the same.

Lidar and L3 are the same, and no car maker aside from Tesla has been promising L3.

Tank turn is an OTA that's not in the vehicle yet.

The one thing I wanted "at launch" was the Max pack.

It's a feature, and very expensive one, that we were told was included.

Not even close. Try again. Hint, 180 degrees is different than being powered. Thats 2 more features removed.
Lidar and L3 are the same,
Wrong again.
Tank turn is an OTA that's not in the vehicle yet.
Ha ha. Good luck with that one ever coming true.
