I'm not sure how many of you haven't been inside an R1 yet, I sat in one for the 1st time a week ago. BM was not near as dark as I had thought and I then switched to BM from OC. I am a little worried about a white interior as well. The main reason I switched was to avoid any delays. I only mention this to let anyone on the fence know that it is a very nice interior with lots of detail and accent color, if that helps. And also point out that it would really be nice if they got those test drive events going for those of us needing to make decisions.

Hate to me the one to break it to you, but the BM batch is finished and it's just OC and FE now. Maybe they will get around to BM again by Q4.

I wonder what the OC->BM cannibalization rate was. Wonder if it pushed FE above OC in # of preorders.
Thinking as I type. Seems like that was mostly an April phenomenon? There were lots of BM LE R1T's to still deliver, so they could have kept running just filling BM orders up till now. Would be nice to think Rivian focused on early OC preorders w Mar/April windows for the swap offers, which wouldn't have been that many. But I've seen messages from those w later preorders that got the swap offer. Haven't seen that many total deliveries in April, so OC likely hasn't dropped below FE yet. I could see OC drop below FE, if no OC variants are projected for two more months, and FE is actually readily available along side BM, and doesn't get cannibalized. Also guessing OC preorders won't get an offer to swap to FE for free if it is available, but would get some interest if if was a low cost swap.

I signed my BPA today for an LG/OC T. If they offered me free FE I'd consider it, but not sure I'd do it. Like the wood trim better in FE, just not sold on the green with LG. If they said I could get BM next week, I'd pass.

Points 1 and 4 don't contradict one another if you're talking with a guide. Perhaps point 1 is better put as "don't change your configuration without talking to a guide".
I specifically asked my guide this question, since I was very leery to make any changes to my configuration before a guide assignment, fearing it might cause my timeline to slip. He said you should absolutely make whatever changes you really intend. That allows the magic to happen (computer matching? guides looking at spreadsheets? ?) so that it triggers a guide assignment when production is nearing a match. So according to my guide, it is a mistake to wait until you finally have a guide to configure the vehicle you really want. I didn't actually make any changes, even after talking with the guide (yet), but switching to BM is something I had been considering. My take away is that if you really want a vehicle ASAP, and you would be happy to take delivery of BM (or some other exterior color or whatever), don't wait for a guide to switch your configuration.

That's just from my guide's advice... YMMV ?

Your CEO typically announces new car launches or new products. I don’t see a CEO announcing something as trivial as the color of seats is delayed. That seems like a quick email or footnote they can add. But who knows.
I'm not entirely sure the word the guide used was "announcement", but even if he did, I didn't take it to mean like a press release or something major. Just some form of communication. A statement like a tweet or an email... an update of some sort.

spoke to my guide briefly on Wednesday. (Begin Paraphrase) they are encouraging March-April window people to consider switching from ocean coast as they are prioritizing Black and Forest edge. They are Encouraging April-May window people to stay with the config they actually want. That seems to indicate that whatever the holdup on OC May be is thought to be temporary.(end paraphrase)

we also discussed the continued lack of communication and clarity from rivian. That my guide does browse the forums and has the same such concerns about this stuff.

Has anyone considered that Rivian is just batching the interior options instead of doing all of them at the same time? It seems obvious to me that this is what they've chosen to do in the short-term as they ramp up.

If this is what's happening, I wouldn't call this a "delay" on OC at all because it's not like they lack the parts from the suppliers – they are simply choosing not to produce OC until later.

I think eventually they'll get to a spot where they can do all colors and interior options at once on the line, but since they're just getting started I feel like they're optimizing for volume of cars produced hence why they've made thousands of Black Mountain cars and are now only just starting Forest Edge.

Point 1 also directly contradicts this statement on the website (Emphasis added):

Want to update your configuration?
You can switch your model or choose different options at any time without affecting your priority for delivery. Selecting 'Save Preferences' will update your configuration and replace your existing choices.

Priority != timing.

Priority != timing.
"!=" = "≠"
Also from the Rivian site:
"Change your model: Delivery timing will vary based on when your configuration enters production. Changing models will not affect your priority for delivery."

as you say: Priority
≠ timing

I was looking for the ≠ in my on-screen keyboard but couldn't find it within .5 sec, so I gave up and went with the better lazier option!

I thought you were making an good point, and its another example of how we need to interpret Rivian's actual words carefully. Probably beating a dead horse at this point.

I understand the distinction between the words priority and timing, but at the very least, I think the strong implication there is that one will not be prejudiced by changing configurations. Priority speaks to importance, but that begs the question of importance . . . In what regard? And I have to say that most reasonable people would infer that priority speaks to timing. Would anyone really care if Rivian “prioritized” our orders in any other regard? Frankly, I don’t even know what other priority factors there are, realistically, other than timing. How much love or skill Rivian puts into the vehicle?

I’m not disagreeing with anyone here on the semantics. But Rivian knew what it was implying with those words.
