FWIW I made a new R1T rez just before the system ordering change (with basic options) and have not heard anything other than generic emails about how I excited I should be to join the Rivian world (which is a joke since I've have a pre-order from March 2019 (order 8,1xx))

I have tried communicating my flexibility too but customer service is useless other than telling me to have an adventurous day.
I agree completely. Just provide us some info and let us decide if to make changes to our config if it betters our chances at an accelerated delivery date. I refuse to believe that they dont have that type of data. For example, the camp kitchen is cool, but not a must have. If I end up waiting 12 more months for one, as opposed to choosing to get one without, I would go without.

Has anyone had any experience if visiting a brick and mortar site yields more information that the website chats?

Making an extra $15k on a few trucks will make no difference to the reported financials and they will have to still fulfil the original orders but at a higher price next year because of inflation.
$15,000 more X 20K vehicles = $300M So I wouldn't call it small change. I feel like there will be a mix so that reservation holders will see that some res holders who have waited since 2019 are getting theirs, but Rivian will allow just enough of the older red holders to receive their trucks so it looks like they are working through the list. I think the ratio of this will depend on how many new reservations they get each week. Rivian received 10K new orders at $93K average per order from the beginning of March to the beginning of May. 5K orders a month. If I were them, I'd be displacing 5K orders per month for the higher ASP and high margins. We shall see if this order in this post is a one-off or a new trend for Rivian.

I made one just after that, missing the configuration window by an hour or so. I suspect you'll get contacted long before I do.

Ding, ding, ding....we have a winner! 20% price hike, absolutely makes sense for them to offer trucks in which customers cancelled on, to new buyers at a 20% higher price point than it would have sold to a pre-03/01/2022 order.
This may also boost new preorder numbers, if people feel that plunking down $1K gives them a shot at the lucky sob sweepstakes, aka chance at a fast turnaround on order. I may put in another order just to hedge.

Except it appears Rivian has put the kibosh on that with the new "reservation sans config" update as of yesterday. I don't think anyone who puts in a reservation after yesterday will be contacted to configure their Rivian for several months at the least as they easily have enough preorders that are already configured to get them through 2022 and probably 2023 without getting to any of the un-configured reservations.

This is an interesting thread and a real eye-opener for me.

I'd assumed that Rivian would roughly follow a FIFO approach with respect to orders. If it turns out that substantial numbers of orders placed after 1 March are now being scheduled for delivery, that will be disappointing. It does however make a certain kind of sense, as several posters have pointed out, given that the price of the later orders is 20-plus percent more than the older orders. The secondary impact of causing older and unprofitable orders to be canceled may also be beneficial to Rivian's bottom line.

The latest change to the Rivian website indicates that delivery for an order placed now will be in 2023. I wonder what that really means. Does Rivian plan to prioritize new orders because they are more profitable? Is this the first stage of an Elon Musk type of maneuver that really wants to antagonize early reservation in the hope that they cancel what are clearly unprofitable orders?

As a surprised Alice said: "Curioser and curioser."

My guess is someone screwed up the algorithm in a system update. Has anyone contacted CS or their guide to ask what might be going on?

Clearly reservation date is pretty low on the matrix but if they plan on keeping the reservation system in place they will need to have the reservation date play a much higher role in deliveries.

I’m short selling the underhanded profit theory. RIVN believes it harmed its image with the spring price hike debacle and they wouldn’t be so quick to have another…

Also Hanlon’s Razor…

WOW. like you said. It is either 1) massive screw up on their delivery system or 2) Rivian is prioritizing orders after march 1st.

There is no way there are no other reservation holders with the same configuration that are close to or close by and have reservation that is way earlier than the op.

Hope Rivian don’t screw up this up again after the pricing fiasco…

Where do you get 20k from? They are making 15k this year and only a very small number of post March 1st orders will get vehicles (none should really but a few have dropped through the net).

They made 5000 thus far, their guidance is for 25K total vehicles....how many are vans is unknown, for 2022. That said guidance is simply that...guidance. Not in hard stone. Tesla beats "guidance" all the time. Rivian's guidance was originally 50K...dropped to 25K...nothing says they can't modify that number upward or downward at a future date.

This many new orders slipping into production cannot be a coincidence. This is planned and basically a way for Rivian to underhandingly back-track on their price reversal.

So if they start producing more and more post-price hike vehicles and delivering them before the pre-hike vehicles, they didn't technically break any promises. Yet they are obviously breaking the spirit of the reservation system and once again treating the earliest reservation holders as second-class citizens. This will also look bad for Rivian once articles start coming out about it.

Quite glad I'm taking delivery of a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel in a few weeks. These Rivian games will come back to bite them.

So, not to attempt to one up the OP BUT I ordered on 5/19/22. Got email saying truck was ready to build on 5/20/22. 8 Step opened up 5/25/22. Awaiting communication on exact delivery date. Needless to say, I have been completely shocked by how fast this will be for me. See my build below (also peep the R1S I have had on order FOREVER! LOL):

Saw this on Facebook. There seem to be no hi price incentive for Rivian here.
