Im a very late Pre-Price-Gate order, January 2022, and I got a invite almost a month ago. I am about 20 miles from the SC
Rivian probably saw that you have a Pontiac Aztec, thought you must know Heisenberg and so they dared not invite you for a test drive. . .

test drive scheduling makes absolutely no sense... but then again maybe we shouldn't be surprised when it comes to Rivian and schedules.

At the dealer now. At least 45 R1T on the lot, 1 R1S, behind a gate that I can't get thru to look at.

Went to a Ford dealer on my way here to look at a van for the wife... Guess what was sitting on the used lot...

I’m gonna have my second first mile drive next week. Stoked because the first was barely a few weeks after I placed my order and I spent too much time on the screen. This time I’m just gonna drive for 45 straight minutes… in westside LA traffic… lol

So as I mentioned earlier, went on my FirstMile drive on Friday. The drive went well. But I did have a couple comments about the truck itself.

Complaints
Broken Bed Cover (which we already knew was going to be a on-going issue)
Navigation perspective is WAY off. Rivian is aware of this issue and is working on a fix.
The road noise from the tires and the E-Motors was EXTREMELY noticeable.
Seats are just a touch to narrow for my wider frame
Labels on the steering wheel about what each button does would be nice

Compliments
Meridian Sound System is FANTASTIC
Cooled seats worked FANTASTIC (was 100* out)
Turning was tight and crisp
Going over the very rough roads in the area, the truck handled them extremely well
Acceleration was made from stuff of my dreams

The FirstMile Mule is a Launch Green/Black/20AT. Did not see how many miles are on it.

I really didnt think I would like the 1 pedal driving, but once I got the idea programmed into my brain, it was actually not to bad. Sloan, the Rivian Rep said that it really comes down to the idea of never taking your foot off the accelerator pedal unless braking is needed thru the actual brake pedal. This thought process, for me, made it so for the rest of the test drive, I only needed to press on the brake pedal once.

They did have 1 Launch Green R1S on the lot when I got there, and then the second one pictured in my above post was delivered while on my test drive. Was not able to get pics of the LG R1S, it was in the shop.

What I mean about the Navigation Perspective being off, The Riv Rep had a pre-designated route I was to take, and it was already programmed in. So I was just following the GPS. The GPS system made it look like my turn was some 2-4 intersections up the road, but in reality, it was in 40ish feet. Needless to say, I missed a couple turns. The system auto-re-routed me with no issues, and did it fairly quickly.

Other personal notes. I dont think the auto-folding side view mirrors are really needed. The difference in-between folded, and not folded, was minimal, and negligible. I was able to get the factory Qi charger to work with my Samsung Note 9 with a OtterBox. It took a few tries to find the right spot.

Now I need to see if one of the aftermarket outfitters offer, or will offer, a bed shell. Could change my order. If I find someone that is going to offer one (sooner than later), I will modify my order to remove the factory bed cover, and change the color. The Canyon Red just sings to me.

As I walked the line at the Dealer pictured above... They are making a lot of work for the PDI teams at the Service Centers. Most, if not all, had Quality issues: Panel Gaps, tail-gates being cock-eyed, swirls, scratch's, panel gaps, etc. The Rivian Blue one on the right, the tail-gate was cock eyes the most. Sitting about 3/8 of an inch low on one side, and 1/2 inch high on the other side. It was VERY noticeable.

Just got home from my second first mile drive. It was fun to just drive for the full 45 minutes and I got way more out of that than trying to understand the infotainment screen while also driving an EV for the first time. Also considering the over 100 degree heat today in LA I was impressed with how cool the cabin was and we had the AC on low and the seat cooling off to start with. The glass roof was hot when I touched it but I didn't feel the ambient heat off it at all.

R1S (in-transit), BMW iX,
We are very early adopters (11/28/18) and have never been invited for a First Mile Drive. I think it is simply a matter of geography. We live in the Florida Panhandle about 350 miles from Atlanta. Even though we are far away from any Rivian Service Center, I would have thought that at least an invitation would be in order for a customer who had had an order in for almost four years.

Brian
That definitely seems to be the case. I'm a July 2022 reservation and got the First Mile invite about a month later. Did my First Mile drive last Friday from the S. San Francisco service center.

An amazing vehicle and just confirmed what I thought about the truck. I know it's going to be a wait to get it, but it will be worth it.

For those that have been on the first mile drive, what has your experience been with the Rivian rep's knowledge of YOUR particular order? I've got mine scheduled for tomorrow in the Miami area and I'm hoping to dive deep into this summer delivery update, etc.

My guide was very knowledgeable. He owned an R1T and was very familiar with the truck and the display and it’s functions. 45 minutes went QUICK!

Familiar with the vehicle or familiar with the status of your order? These are test drives, doubtful they are researching the status of everyone's order ahead of these appointments. And even if they did, they probably can't tell you anything more than CS. But I haven't done one of these events so I could be wrong.

Yeah I figure that is the case too. I meant familiar with that pre-order holders' specific order.
