What's even more nuts is that PA Attorney General reaching out to them because they didn't meet the state requirement on documentation submittal. That may have the potential of fines and making all future Rivian purchasers from the state do their own sale documentation. The man hours alone to respond are going to vastly exceed rental car fees.

What is even more, more nuts is the likelihood of my vehicle loan not being perfected in a reasonable time and transitioning to an unsecured loan at a MUCH higher interest rate. If that happens, I would absolutely lose my mind.

This experience has been absolute dog shit. I have a 80k truck sitting in my garage because Rivian (via their subcontractor) is incompetent. It's inexcusable.

Judging by the amount of posts about it here - this WILL likely happen to you.

They are outsourcing the registration process so any fines they should be able to recover from the vendor.

If it comes to that I guess we will see how good their contracts legal team is.

Bob - that's not how it works. Rivian is fined and they need to work with the vendor to be reimbursed. Carvana uses the same organization to do their title work and they have consistently been on the hook in multiple states.

One way to look at it is that you purchased a vehicle from Rivian - not from RegUSA or whomever. Rivian, as the seller, has a responsibility to uphold the legal requirements of such a sale, either internally or via subcontracting it out.

Saw an R1T here in Oregon today with the original temp tags that expired on 7/17.

Hard to say how much is Rivian and how much is Oregon DMV. Got a check for $50 from Oregon DMV for overpayment 3 weeks ago, so they got paperwork and funds from Rivian but still don't have plates.

Agreed. My guide told me in the last update before the plates finally arrived that oregon had all the paperwork and we were waiting on them.

Not sure I understand the difference in what I said and what you are saying.

I am not saying that the vendor will be fined but Rivian should be able to recover the cost. I would actually go after them for the rental car expenses although that is a goodwill gesture by Rivian and would be much more difficult. It depends on what performance SLAs and penalties are in the contract.

I have previously received a letter (and $50 fine) from my DMV for not registering within the 30 day window they require. All the paperwork was notarized (in person) and delivered to Rivian within a few days of delivery. Rivian has still not sent it to the DMV.

Today I received a letter from my insurance carrier saying the DMV notified them that I am subject to "possible suspension of driving privileges".

I am not happy.

My temp plates expired last Friday. That same day I received an extended set of temp plates AND my actual plates with Colorado registration stickers. I guess they were hedging their bets. The next day I received the title.

I saw that colorado EVs are supposed to use special EV plates as of January 2022 OR use a decal. I did not receive the EV plates but did get the decal for the upper right of the windshield.

I don’t know what the Colorado EV decal actually does. A quick online search turned out nothing but speculation. We never received a decal for our used i3 though I’ve randomly seen the stickers around for years. Anyone else in Colorado using their decal or are you putting it in the center cubby and forgetting about it?

I got my truck delivered on 7/27 and I got all of my paperwork for my transferred plates on 8/29, so approximately one month. They correctly transferred the plates from our Volvo and everything looked good. I had no complaints and I live in Ohio for reference.

I will not accept a rental and am planning to call my Guide tomorrow to tell him to send me the paperwork and arrange for a sales tax refund and I’ll go to the local tag shoppe and do it myself. This is nuts. Rivian should’ve stopped the RegUSA bleeding a long time ago and just had owners do the title work themselves while they figured out a better solution.

And just to counter point, I got my plates in about a week. I guess them being in Illinois makes things easier.

However I'm rocking the temp plates for the full 90 days to avoid any No Front Plate stupidity.
