Rivian R1S (on order)
Update - here's a link to a good BMW iX forum:

Car and Driver Review:
https://www.caranddriver.com/review...0-vs-2022-rivian-r1s-launch-edition-compared/

Car and Driver really doesn't seem to like how the R1S handles. I've previously only seen positive comments about R1S handling, such as Doug DeMuro's review.

For those who have driven the R1S, do you agree with C&D's handling description of float, porpoising, and steering quickness out of proportion with the chassis?

I've had my R1S Launch Edition preordered for a couple years now and (other than C&D's review) eagerly await its arrival !!!

you got a link? I cant find it.
Not off hand but I remember making a snarky comment that the author of this article seems like a jealous little bitch over SUV's they can't afford and the entire thing reeks of butthurt over it.

Read it this morning and my overwhelming takeaway is * wanking motion *

Also, how in the hell did they only manage 230 miles on the highway test? I've never seen anything close to 1.7mi/kwh on the highway at 75mph so I am completely clueless as to how they managed that.
I'm honestly impressed with 230 mile range on the highway. My R1S is well under 200 mile range highway driving.

230 miles range, really? Of course, they didn't mention one was 100% charged vs. 70% changed. I understand that BMW is known for driving experience and Rivian is not nearly at that level; but that's only a piece of the puzzle when reviewing cars.

at a 100% charge? I've never seen less than 1.9mi/kwh on the highway and that was in cold rain at 75mph with elevation change in all purpose. In Conserve I regularly see 2.2+. This test appears to have been done in pretty good conditions, so I really don't understand how they got that result.

Haven't driven a Rivian, let alone sat inside one, but I can attest the IX is fantastic. BMW did an amazing job with tuning this vehicle, so comfortable and quiet.

wow, not a great review for the R1S. of course its mainly based on on-road dynamics and if there was an off-road part of the review, the iX would get killed by the R1S. but lets be honest, 95% of our driving is going to be on-road.

and that efficiency.... only 230 miles!? something seems a bit off there.

Guessing they didn't use conserve mode? Their "how we test cars" spiel says nothing about selecting the most economical mode for highway range testing.

It sounds like they were doing something wrong driving the vehicles though:
Annoyingly, neither vehicle has a coast mode for its powertrain, and it's often difficult to avoid erratic regenerative dithering, particularly at highway speeds.
Not really sure how that would be relevant at highway speeds unless they are lifting far too much off the pedal expecting the vehicle to coast like an ICE.

For those who have driven the R1S, do you agree with C&D's handling description of float, porpoising, and steering quickness out of proportion with the chassis?
Haven't driven the R1S, but there are a few particular roads I drive on that porpoise like crazy in my R1T if I'm in sport mode with stiff suspension turned on. It doesn't do it in all purpose mode at all there.

Either someone got paid to favor BMW over Rivian or was doing something wrong. Perhaps existing R1S owners can chime in. I am getting mine this weekend and will surely post the range numbers once I have enough data.

given the price difference the performance and driving experience differences are not surprising to me.
