Gang - here are a few pics:

Close-up of the tread. We are planning for a bolt-on tread design. The bolt-on design is a premium design (added brackets (which are welded) and hardware), where you actually don't see any welds by design. Lesser / lower end steps have exposed welds. I know some folks say they like the welded look, but with the right fasteners (those shown before were NOT production fasteners - disregard those! They are just temporary), this looks really nice / OEM grade.

Note - there are a few small tweaks to the design feature - not shown here (the outer square is going to be more star shaped like the inner star. Need to respect our friends at Rivian, and we don't want to tread too close to their design!

As for the design features, we specifically have these open through, so they dont collect dirt. If we plated the bottom, these features would fill with dirt and grime and be impossible to keep clean. This open through design is super easy to clean and keep nice, while providing sufficient grip. I tested it bare foot, ha ha - feels okay :)

Production update -
Step / tube design is done, tested and approved and tooled.
We made some small tweaks to mounting brackets to further optimize (minor change)
We updated the design feature (double star) - soon as I get one we will show
We are waiting on fasteners! Disregard the shown bolts, those are only temporary
Boxes are ready
Everything is moving ahead well - we should begin shipping steps in late Dec; based on b/o we will be shipping into January. Those that preordered earned free shipping and intro pricing, thank you for the support!
Sliders basically on the same path, but the mounting and bottom side is much different.

Thanks again everyone - Rivian Nation is the best!

Hmm. First, THANK YOU for the photos.

I'm going to try them either way as I really need running boards on this thing. To EV1's credit, the plate to bar does look nicer without spot welds. But, my concerns from my prior post about the visible bolts and pass through logos are confirmed. MUCH, MUCH prefer the original design with those being solid and no bolts Would gladly have accepted the few spot welds in lieu of having bolts raised above the surface of the plate. The original photoshop image, they look much cleaner.

As another poster noted, not sure if there will be any added wind noise by leaving the logos open? it's an absolute certainty that more dirt will now come up from underneath onto the top of the plates, whereas that would have been far less likely with a solid plate design. More dirt on top, means tracking more dirt inside. Also, open plates would seem to disrupt air flow more than if it was a solid surface. I'm sure it won't make any "measurable" variance in terms of range, but logic would seem to dictate that a solid surface would be more aero-efficient than having that many logs open for air to pass through?

The bolts are just aesthetics for me. Not a deal breaker. Those open logos though, that's a little tougher pill to swallow.

I appreciate the larger step and think it will be more "usable" for most. The original photoshop version, they looked a little cleaner and more tucked in, but if I had to choose, I would prefer function over form. So, while the tucked one's may look a little cleaner, the revised version with a larger step does make more sense.

I wish there was an option to leave the plate solid. Maybe I'll add one underneath if dirt / noise turns out to be an issue.

Just my two cents based on my own personal tastes. I've already paid for them and definitely need them, so not turning back now. They'll be going on the truck either way. Just don't know if I'm going to love them as much as I thought I would. Still eager to find out.

Thanks for the updates. Glad to have this info in advance rather than be surprised by it when opening the box.

Couple things - the design has always been through hole pattern; no change there (only change is the 'design' getting more unique from Rivian). Older photos are just darker photos and cad models didn't show bolts - sorry about that. BTW this is nothing new and unique to us, it's standard on fabricated steel steps. A platted design is a no-go (going to hold dirt and water between plates and cause corrosion issues). There is no aero plus or minus here.

We have made welded plate versions - Doesn't look bad, but its just not as clean a look as the bolted plate. Here is one of our early prototypes. The bolted plate is much nicer. We will have proper looking fasteners on the final goods!

@EV Sportline I think these look fantastic… and can’t wait to get these on. One question that has been asked several times but I don’t believe I’ve seen an answer to, is what the impact is to the under body plastic. Does this require that they are left off, or can they be put back on after installation?

These are looking clean. Any change with your expected weight here? I recall before you were saying 190lbs for the sliders?

Yes, we need pictures of the underside, after installation. I suspect it won’t be very airstream friendly, like the original pre order design (due to the new bracketed, w/hardware, mounting design). I hope to be wrong, but absent information, we all are just speculating.

I have ordered a pair of running boards, but I'm still waiting for the installation video or pix's before this is a done deal.

Looks like in the first photo with your size 9 shoe that the door trim at the bottom is hitting the running board. Is that true?

Also can you answer how it will attach and how it will affect the underbody plastic panels?

I also prefer the welded version. Welded looks like a rock rail and not a cosmetic step. Might also add a bit of strength. I can see a small drop onto the slider popping screws.

Any chance these can be ordered with painted with STEEL-IT or even bare instead of powder coated?

Considering placing an order - but hoping to get some insight into the range impact on an R1S...I would hope it's minimal, but I'm always surprised by these things. Have you guys done any testing at all with regards to range?

Think those of us who receive and install will be the test about range and efficiency..

I kinda like the idea of the bolted on version. As he mentioned the screws/bolts look better than the ones used in sample pictures but also gives me opportunity to maybe do some custom powdercoating/maintenance/etc. Also send me my order early and I'll do the efficiency test:)

Q&A:

1 - Weight, 38lbs per running board ~76 per set. Slider version almost 2x that.

2 - Outer plastic underside covers must be removed for install (we bolt to the frame structure under the covers). 3 outer covers per side, they just unbolt and pop off, easy. For running board (non-slider), this is where you have an option - ditch the covers after removal (easy, no mods needed) - done. Or - trim the covers to allow our running board brackets to pass through, and reinstall the covers. We will provide the trim template. The plastic is thin and flimsy, easy to trim - if desired. Here is the look - the blue is the plastic cover, you can see what the 4 trimmed slots will look like. One reason we revised bracket design was so these covers could optionally be trimmed and reused.
Rivian R1T R1S Introducing RMaxx Running Boards & Rock Sliders for Rivian R1T / R1S from Team 1EV image (28)

3 - I will post an updated end view of the step, you'll see the updated brackety is still very close to flush with the bottom of the truck - minimal aero impact.

4 - R1T and R1S are not the same, not at all - dimensionally. So, the R1S is the same design, but different size. We will ship R1T before R1S too, just like Rivian :) But....we're pushing on all designs and models to get launched ASAP!

5 - We will have a detailed install video and final pics posted before we ship, so everyone can have a thorough look first!

....this morning on a material run = running boards made loading all that on the roof EASY!!!!!

Thanks for sharing. It seems like the original design (flat pancake bracket-free) was superior from an aero and keeping the stock plastic panels perspective. There will be some sort of aero hit from the drag created by those eight airstream blocking brackets you chose to go with. I would expect some wind noise as well. How much is anyone’s guess - until customer’s start reporting…

@EV Sportline
So, the Optional aero solution you previously mentioned was modifying and reusing the Rivian plastic covers?

If we decide these are not for us, what’s the process to request a refund on the pre order, order?
