Hello all,
Checkin in for the first time, while reading this forum very often!
I am waiting for the delivery of a R1T.
At the time of delivery (?), I probably won't be able to use it for a certain period of time per year, as I would need to travel overseas for my job, each time for about 4 months.
Do you think the battery would be impacted?
Any issue to be expected?
Thank you very much for your thoughts ?

You may want to slightly overfill the tires to try and minimize flat spots.

Your R1T will develop a depression which could be terminal :(

Major impact will be depression of both user and truck from non-use as long as it is left plugged in.

Agree! But the remaining active days will be very busy for the R1T. It would certainly need some rest!

Back of napkin math estimates if Rivian has 20,000 cars produced consuming 1 kwh/day just to exist, that's about the same CO2 emissions as putting 3-500ish gas cars on the road (counter to their ethos).

I still don't understand why a sleeping car needs so much more power than a phone just for maintaining active sensors and radios.

They are literally mid-flight releasing *another* update to work on that issue. They know, they agree, they're working on it :)

To OP - as others have said - ABC: Always Be Charging. Just leave it plugged in and it'll sit patiently awaiting your return.

Also, resist checking on the car too frequently via app, because it will wake up each time you do. I'd also hold off installing any updates remotely as the vehicle may need a reboot to get it back alive to charge ... you never know with updates. I'd say checking the car ever week or two would be OK

I'm curious what the evidence for this is. The app has a Wake vehicle button. As far as I know, mine doesn't wake until I tell it to. It also has to manually wake to start the environmental controls. Mine frequently fails to wake or start the environmental controls until I try up to several times. In other words, just opening the app isn't showing any evidence of waking my truck. So I question the validity of the common claim the vehicle "wakes up" just from checking the app. It does update the current SOC/range estimate, so obviously there is some degree of active communication. But that does not equate all screens, HVAC, etc all coming on. I have never had someone do it remotely while I am close to the truck.

Also, I have avoided checking the app at all for 24-48 hours vs checking in a couple of times a day. Zero difference in vampire drain.

Although Rivian doesn't support it yet, there is a way to disconnect all the batteries. However, if you have a reliable power source, probably best to leave it plugged in if at all possible. I have not heard of anyone besides myself intentionally disconnecting the batteries... and I have not read about anyone reconnecting them yet but I will let you know next week lol.
