<sarcasm>
That can’t possibly be true because Amazon wouldn’t allow it.
<\sarcasm>

great news if true though.
Haha.

At this point Amazon is likely has a "do whatever it takes" attitude when it comes to Rivian.

New software beta is out
https://rivian.software/version-2023-06-00/

Navigation Improvements
We’ve introduced the following new features in navigation:

  • Place search is now powered by Google Maps™
This certainly isn't Google Navigation, but it does fix a major issue of navigation coming up empty when searching for things that have been somewhere for years.

An example of this is Northgate Station (near Seattle).

Thats disappointing. Wish they would lean more into google maps.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. This opens the door to more and more integration.

I would love, Love, LOVE if Rivian went full Android Automotive + GAS like Polestar and Volvo. Google’s voice recognition and navigation are amazing.
Thats an interesting take. On the contrary, I have found Android automotive in Volvos to be the worst infotainment system I have ever used, including Sensus and JLR's Touch Pro, which are both generally garbage.

Volvo's AA can't even show the currently playing track in the instrument panel consistently - the map constantly zooms in and out in a very distracting way. I could go on but won't bore everyone with the litany of puzzling UX choices and missing features. It is just a semi-functional mess at this point that I would not wish on anyone.

To each their own, I guess. For me, voice and nav. are the most important features. I have AA on the Volvo and love it, but admittedly I rely on voice more than glancing and pressing. Typically I will use Assistant to set my route, then switch to wired CarPlay.

If Rivian already uses Android Automotive, then adding Google maps and Assistant probably wouldn’t make the experience any worse (I would hope).
