How do you open a locked door from the inside?

My kids and I just got home. One child and I came in immediately but the other was getting their stuff together. With me out of range and all the doors closed the truck locked and she couldn't get out!

A few minutes later we realized she hadn't come inside and I went out to discover she was locked in the truck. She said she tried pulling the handle multiple times and it wouldn't open.

I figure there has to be a way to get out, but I've been googling and I can't figure out what it is.

Admittedly never locked someone in my truck without the key present. There must be some way to do it, I doubt safety standards would allow you to be locked inside given they force manual releases to be present in the frunk/bed/trunk of vehicles.

Rear doors have physical child locks on them, front doors will open if pulled twice.

Off topic, but - The double-handle pull thing really catches everyone in my truck. I am used to it now but literally everyone I've ever had in it pulls once then looks at the door weird like they did something wrong.

I think I like it requiring a double-pull, prevents accidental opening. I guess very few other manufacturers must do that, since nobody (including me when I first got it) seems to be used to that.

The double-pull to open a locked door is, in my mind at least, a German thing. German marques have done this for decades. Maybe it's all Euro brands.

Yes, it's been around a while. Our 2004 BMW 330 has double pull, as well as our 2016 X3d.

FWIW mine was delivered with only one rear child lock active. I didn't notice for months, I just thought my passengers were stupid ?

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Interesting side note - my truck was delivered with one child protection lock enabled, the other disabled. Found out because of a similar scenario with my son. I locked the door when I walked away from the truck, but he hadn’t yet exited.

My 2010 Camaro did this. My Toyotas have all auto-unlocked in park (but I think they require a double pull if not unlocked), but the Camaro was a manual and I have had multiple passengers look at me the same way you describe.

She tried pulling twice on the back door but didn't think to climb into the front to try that door, thanks.
You might have your child safety locks turned on for those rear doors. Pretty much all vehicles have them.

Thank you, I'll change that!

It only requires the double pull if you don't put it in park.

C6 Corvette is fun. They changed to electronic door releases so you have to push a button to get out (or in). People are often confused about that, but because it's also a manual you have to hit the unlock button first if it's still running and/or the ebrake hasn't been pulled. Unnecessarily complicated. :p
