I'm curious as to why you feel that way? We have inspection in Pennsylvania and the vast majority of things they inspect for fuction and integrity - lights, tires, brakes, suspension - apply equally to EV or ICE. The only thing that would not apply here is emissions insepction, and that's been a separate fee forever.
Yes, I was referring to emissions (see VW) as it is less obvious/hard to see, but yes those others could be important safety issues as well.

If someone asks me if it's a Cybertruck it will take ALL of my energy to control myself and not start ranting and raving and then crying at the thought :swear:

Here in New Hampshire all vehicles (including EVs) are required to undergo a state-mandated inspection at the initial point of sale, and annually thereafter at the dealership or at a state-approved service center. Because I picked up my R1T in Boston, it did not have the necessary NH state inspection certification, so I had to find a place to complete the inspection. When I dropped it off I had to show them how to find the odometer, which showed just 140 miles. It was a weird and slightly unsettling experience, given how completely ignorant the service guys were of Rivian. In fact after about 5 minutes they had to admit that they didn't know "how to start the engine".

TX requires annual inspection make sure lights work, blinkers, etc
Florida used to have vehicle inspection but did away with it about 30 years ago. It was a total rip-off.
I wish CO had annual safety inspections. I can't go a single day without seeing multiple headlights or taillights out on various cars. Similarly, came up on a %&$^ in a RAM with basically zero visible taillights because they decided to smoke them out so dark that they'd only be visible at night if you were a foot off their ass.

Wonder if there is any data that shows accidents are more common per mile driven for states without inspections vs. those with. All the states I've lived in only had emission requirements and VIN verification (which is another rip off).

As a note, the Rivian service center (at least in Chelsea, MA) does not perform State Inspections anyhow.....so even a MA resident (like me) will pick up, and have 7 days according to State law to obtain an inspection sticker...
I'm not looking forward to my next MA inspection as they have to lift the vehicle. I will make sure to bring my jack pucks as I don't trust anyone to lift it properly.

Lifting the vehicle seems awfully excessive for an inspection. I've never had some state agency lift my vehicles nor do I think I would want them to. What could they possibly be looking for that an emissions test/inspection wouldn't catch?

I don't believe my MA inspection included a lift of the vehicle.

I was told the initial inspection doesn’t require lifting but subsequent inspections do require it. However, I have not confirmed this is true.

This sounds like some California-level s**t. That surprises me for a state like TX.

I think they are looking to get rid of it. But hasn't happened yet.
Governor signed the bill last month, goes into effect in 2025. Cars in the most populous counties will still be required to get an emissions inspection but no more going to a shop for a safety inspection. But we'll still be paying for it, now they're just going to call it the "inspection program replacement fee".

For a Safety Inspection, as it's called in Pennsylvania, they must measure the brake pads (usually - but not always - pulling one front and one rear wheel off) and visually the suspension components (shocks, springs, steering components such as ball joints, etc. and rubber bushings for damage or failure), brake lines, rotors and frame for heavy rust, body, floor pan and exhaust components cannot be rusted through, etc. All of this has to be done from under the vehicle.

Wow that sounds a bit excessive.
