Has anyone mounted a roof top tent on the roof of their R1T? I have an overnight track day coming up and need the bed free to load up my bike.

I haven't done it but the only harm will be the range hit that you will take. I mount my RTT (Roam) over the bed when we camp and I haven't really noticed any impact on range at all with it over the bed but I totally get needing the bed for a bike. Report back on the impact!

Okay so I just started watching long way up. They had a RTT mounted to the roof of a pre production R1T. I was planning on towing a small u haul trailer with my bike on it and keeping the RTT mounted over the bed. But now I'm worried about the range loss towing the trailer. I wonder which set up would be most efficient? RTT on bed and tow motorcycle on small trailer or RTT on roof and bike in the bed. ?

My bet is the RTT on roof is worst efficiency. RTT On bed will help your bike trailer draft. My RTT is over bed and don’t notice, or very minimal, any efficiency difference when mtb is on hitch rack

I agree, I haven't noticed any range hit with mine mounted over the bed as well. I'll report the efficiency towing the trailer after the trip.

How big is the moto? Could you do a hitch mounted motorcycle carrier and the RTT over the bed? This would be ideal but it would sort of make the bed fairly useless until you get the bike off the back.

Cbr600rr kitted out for the track, around 400 lbs. I've always been sketched out by the hitch mounted moto carriers. It would fit tho and I agree this would probably be the most efficient set up.

I mounted mine on the Roof, and mind you, the efficiency sucks!!! We drove from the Bay Area to Bullards Beach State Park in Oregon, for camping trip, the best thing about taking the Pacific Coast Highway is the RAN. Once you go over 70MPH, the range drop significantly.

Thanks for posting the pics! That's the same tent they had mounted on the prototypes on long way up. I might get slightly better efficiency, mines a hard shell. Just curious what numbers are you averaging miles per kWh? I hear ya. I have a friend who drives all over the place with a KTM 990 Adventure on a hitch carrier on a Sprinter based RV and hasn't had any problems. Good luck and post pics of what you end up doing!

Headed out this afternoon RTT over the bed, trailer in tow. Efficiency 1.7 miles/kWh. Not bad about a .5 hit from my daily average. Charging is another issue, on a 150 kw EA charger I'm getting 38kw. Temps are high 102 at the moment and I came up over the grapevine. Not sure if the truck is throttling or if the charger just sucks. Range estimates in tow mode are way off. I left with 100% charge and the range went all the way up to 370 miles at one point. Said I would arrive with 140 miles of range on a 130 mile trip. My real world estimate would put my max range at 220 miles with this set up.
