Rivian R1T R1S NEW - OpenSource EV Left Phone Mount V2 IMG_1662

Hello my dudes!

Allow me to introduce the new OpenSourceEV Left Phone Mount V2. It's the second generation of a new way to mount a phone holder in your Rivian R1S and R1T. It's designed to mount at the very top of the driver side air vent - just outside of the where it would be obscured by the steering wheel.

The Left Phone Mount V2 improves on the pervious version in the following ways:
  1. The mount is constructed of ASA instead of PETG for better durability, UV resistance, and temperature resistance of up to 300 degrees.
  2. Significant structural updates to lie flatter and secure in place better.
  3. The ball mount is now modular, allowing for a quick swap between sizes without having to purchase a brand new mount and without having to deinstall the base.
  4. The ball is now secured in place by an M5 x 35MM steel bolt and nut which better supports larger, heavier phones.
The Left Phone Mount V2 is compatible with all three ball sizes - 17MM, 20MM and 1 Inch. One of these is included, other are sold separately. It retails for $14.95, is available now, and extra sizes of balls will be available shortly for $2.50 each. There is even a special 50% off upgrade offer for Left Phone Mount owners - check out the order page for details. You can purchase it here: https://opensourceev.com/products/phone-ball-mount-evo

The STL file for this will be posted later today, and spare parts for it, including hardware, per our 1 Year Announcement, will be available shortly as well.

A video is also in the works and will be posted here when complete. for now - here are a few more pictures:

Will definitely be giving this a shot based on the issues we had with my truck and the previous version (just came loose again yesterday in the heat).

Thanks for constantly working to improve your products!

As usual, your designs look great! The video mentions STL's available but I don't see them on printables - are you till planning on open sourcing them?

Just want to let everyone know I upgraded from V1 to V2 and the design is much better. It's rock solid stable now. Combined with the usb/OBD tap under the dash, it's a perfect option for mounting your phone.

Thanks @RWerksman! I had some fitment issues with the left side mount whereby the back would not fully slot into place but that could be due to variances in the truck or whatever the STL was optimized for (I printed using Polymaker ABS on an X1C using Bambu Studio stock profiles). But man that redesigned right hand mount is a huge improvement over the previous version - solid, perfect fit (no movement at all), and the repositioned mount location allows me to see the phone unobstructed by the steering wheel. Great work!

Anyone successfully print this? I ordered some abs filament and tried twice, first with a brim and then with a raft but the model slips off the plate at the same spot in both cases. (Using an AnkerMake M5 100 degrees c / 200 degrees c respectively). Additionally are supports needed for the overhang at the top? I added supports but it didn't get far enough in the print to see if that was needed.

Printing this is a bit tricky. Here is the orientation that I print it in:

Rivian R1T R1S NEW - OpenSource EV Left Phone Mount V2 1695148533769

I use s small bit of supports + a 5MM brim on each. I use ASA, so my printing settings won't be particularly helpful, but I can say that I print at the top end of the recommended range on a textured PEI plate, don't use a glue stick, and don't have issues issues with it sticking as long as I use as rather large brim and print in this orientation. (I specifically designed it to print like this)

Also - no supports except for on the plate. The hole should be A-ok.

Lemme know if that helps! :)

I'm an idiot. This seems obvious looking at it now in this orientation. If you export in Prusa i'd grab that .stl from you but regardless I'm going to try this tonight.

Thank you!

lol - no biggie. I saw someone attempt to print one of the older ones with the entire dash side setup as supports. ?‍♂

STL file up on Printables now. You can search for 'OpenSourceEV' on there or use the link at the bottom of the site. Shoot me a message if you need anything else.
