Saw this on Facebook; sounds like Rivian was attempting the Rubicon with two trucks and an suv. It looks like manufacturer plates. I think at least the R1S made it, and I'm sure they've learned that the tire rod ends need to be beefed up!

I would love see that! I did it in my Jeep 2 weeks ago and it wasn’t easy.

More importantly look at that bumper and winch!

How's your Jeep set up? I've been wanting to run it for years but just haven't made it out there yet.

I hope they design the bumper like Jeep (and maybe Ford too), where the bumper has user-removable ends, so you can configure it for on-road and off-road use.

I run the trail a handful of times each year. There is NO way I would run my R1S through the trail. IMO opinion it's not the right rig for that level of wheeling. I LOVE seeing someone do it. And eventually EVs will be capable. This was a good opportunity to learn.

A friend of mine sent me these. He was on the trail and came across the Rivian team doing some “research”! Would love to try it in someone else’s $80k R1!:

I just did the Rubicon in my Polaris sxs two weeks ago. can't imagine taking any stock vehicle through there. the Rivians flat underbody shielding will help with sliding down rocks, but there are huge boulders to get over/around. 100% needs to have sliders. don't think it would make it solo w/o winch. The car is gonna get beat up & likely dented on the quarter panels. that trail is knarley. wonder if the steering rods can handle it given the pics of someone in Moab w/ the broken rod and the extreme stress of off camber drops and climbs where lots of the vehicles weight is on one corner. hope they made a video as I would love to see it!

Since Rivian's research involved a winch; perhaps they were also testing the bolt on crawler box they patented?

The R1S has zip ties strapping the front right fender moulding back onto the body —I wonder if these have been modified in some way to provide more up travel. A stock wheel shouldn’t rip off the moulding. Perhaps they ripped it off on the rock.

Also the front has two receivers in place of the tow hooks and what I assume is a DC connector. They must have a removable front winch they can use.
