Talked with a service technician today at the Bellevue service center and asked about wristband keys. From what I understood, Rivian can't keep up their production of them to match production of the Launch Editions that they come with. As soon as they're mostly through Launch deliveries, he expects them to be available for everyone else in the gear shop, although they'll likely be limited on stock even then.

Not sure the credibility of this guy about something like that, but it often seems like the service techs provide the most information. The absolute silence from Rivian on topics like this is mildly infuriating, seems so much easier and less controversial if they were to just be transparent.

I do have confidence that Rivian will follow through eventually. Like the manual tonneau cover, they were dead silent for over a year on any sort of updates or images or anything. Then they finally made an announcement and 2 days later they were delivered on my doorstep. Great, but a few updates along the way would be nice.

All these posts are giving Rivian commitment issues IMO

  • Will you offer the wristband in the Rivian shop? We want the wristband!
    • Currently, the Key Band comes standard with Launch Edition R1T and R1S. We have no plans to offer the Key Band for separate purchase through Gear Shop.
    • We’ve made sure internal teams know that there’s demand for this kind of vehicle access from the community!
    • (from )

I personally think that's a mistake, since it's just passing up on free money for a product they've already designed and manufactured, but that's the current official word. Perhaps there are problems with the wristband that we don't know about.

So no, Rivian isn't being silent about this, they've just not given an answer that people want to hear.

This seems like an incredibly easy item to manufacture. There’s nothing unique about it.

That said, I don’t get the use case. I have my phone on me 95% of the time and my AppleWatch 100% of the time. I’d rather they figure out how to get AppleWatch as a key.

The use case is for those who surf, swim and just want a key that is water/sweat-proof and as minimalist as possible. Not my use case, but I can certainly see who might want it. Personally, I'd rather have the Apple-Watch-As-Key they've been testing internally since I wear one and would rather not wear yet another device. Plus, a wrist-bound key is a little more handy—and direct—than a phone app (especially when proximity unlocking is less than responsive).

I just picked up a couple wristband keys on eBay for $75 each. I noticed in a different listing that some a-hole posted one for $550.

We'll see if the ones I bought work. They're supposed to arrive this weekend. They did ship from Normal. Seller had 5 of them.

I just bought one from the same seller... would rather take that out on the boat/jetski vs the fob which is "supposed to be" waterproof.

The watch battery sucks, at least mine does, so I don't wear it as much as I keep my phone on me, and I don't feel like upgrading the watch, whereas replacing my phone is much easier to justify.

Always have my Apple watch on me. My iPhone? Well, sometimes. The cellular feature of my watch makes having the phone unnecessary most of the time. I’d way rather have the watch as a key, than the phone. Using the watch also makes the wrist band redundant.

My LE R1S was delivered in June without the wristband key. I finally got it. They paired it up when I had it in the shop the last two weeks for delivery day issues. They also didn’t delivery my car with the first aid kit. Got that as well.

You'll want your phone for photos and video if extraterrestrials land nearby and want to check out your vehicle.

It was a few months back, but my vehicle (adventure edition) was in at the service center and I just asked them if i could buy a key from them while i was there. They said sure, charged me $100 for the wristband key and $60 for the programming.

I have an Ultra now. Lasts two full days. Have had series 2 and 6. Those did not last as long. A day or less.
