Mud Guards options?

I’m not interested in the paper thin mud flaps that everyone else is selling.

I'm surprised there aren't more options...at least I don't know of any. I have the Twraps mud flaps. They look decent enough and serve their function.

For the most part the factory body catches the road splats. The little thing behind the front wheel well lets dirt hit the side of the truck however. I keep the truck waxed and the road splats wash off easy.

I had RallyArmors on my Subaru STI and loved them. Easy to install and quite durable.

I have not yet pulled the trigger on these for my R1T. It's on my 'list,' though.

Like I said, I loved them. Super high quality, very durable, installed without any kind of modification to the vehicle (and easily un-installable without leaving a trace).

I don't think they were thin at all, to be quite honest.

What do you want a semi-sized pair of mudflaps on your Riv?

+1 Strongly recommend Twraps for their mud guards, and all else Rivian. Solid mounting, covers the front blow holes, and reasonably priced at $70.

I got sucked into the wildly expensive carbon fiber versions by another vendor, but they leave the blow holes open on the front wheels and do not nearly have the solid mounting approach of the Twraps version.

ABS doesn't hold up very well to the elements, so, I can totally see why these are much cheaper. (From an Engineering perspective, it's poor solvent resistance--vis a vis crap that leaks out of vehicles and is going to splash up on these during weather), and it's not UV resistant. Maybe TWraps is adding a UV stabilizer to these before molding them?

Polyurethane on the other hand is pretty damned durable, and the fact that it's flexible is a huge benefit--you can hit the crap out of it with all kinds of road debris and it's not going to crack or bend to the point of breaking.

If I'm adding something to my vehicle, it best make it more durable...not less.

To each their own, but do some homework before deciding to buy something cheap for the sake of misinformed perception.

But glad you like your unobtanium mudguards as mine are also needlessly expensive. We would be good friends if you would stop swinging that hammer around. Carry on.

I'm not calling *people* cheap, I'm calling the *product* cheap.

To be clear, I have no allegiance with any particular mud guard brand. I was just astonished that the response was "hey, I dislike what you posted, so let's recommend something subpar instead." From an Engineering standpoint at least.

I'm not here to yuck anyone's yum. And taste and preferences and use-cases are all individualized. If inexpensive ABS works for someone, or they don't dig the shape, or simply don't want to pay $270 for something they don't perceive to be that valuable (I also don't necessarily disagree--I think these cost only around $100 back when I got them for my STI, but they did come with some sweet brackets and stainless hardware, so they were worth more than just the polyurethane).

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Carry on, but rest assured, I meant no ill will, malice or condescension towards anyone here. We're all cool, because we have cool vehicles ....right?

Apologies for the late response, I wanted to give more info about how we make them but I am on vacation (yayyy! ) and barely online.
So... you are correct that ABS generally isn't UV resistant. We use ABS that's coated with a UV resistant layer but never done my own tests to be fair. We've been doing this for more than half year and so far so good. With that said though, I wanted to point out that currently we use ABS sheets that are glossy on one side and textured on the other and I personally don't like them too much. The good news is that this will soon change. For some reason it took me many months to find proper material for this (I've tried at least two dozens of materials for this particular purpose) but I am happy to say that just prior to leaving for my vacation I found THE ONE It's ABS again, but has special coating that gives us a few things:
* Satin finish on both sides (super smooth and premium looking)
* Elements resistance

The ABS I will be using down the road is actually marine rated, so I am very optimistic that it will hold up great. I expect to get my first shipment of the new ABS sheets in early September. Also I will (relatively soon) start offering carbon fiber version, and I will likely make a version with and without the aero hole cutout.
To clarify additionally - historically we've been laser cutting these, but that was a super expensive process for us because laser cutting ABS destroys the laser filters very quickly and those things are expensive. As of about a month ago, I got us our first CNC router so for the past few weeks we've been CNC cutting these. The CNC adds the bonus of being able to cut carbon fiber, so I am going to make some tests when I am back and if all goes well I will release that too as soon as I get a bigger shipment of the carbon fiber sheets.

Last but not least - I've tested various samples of PE and it felt rather cheap. You are correct that it's indestructible so I am open to the idea of switching to PE if ABS causes us issues in the long term, just saying I prefer to avoid it for now. If premium look/feel PE exists, I haven't found it yet...but again - if ABS causes us issues in the long term, I will invest more time into sampling more PE in the hopes of finding something that works.
