Now that Rivian has published the Max Pack ranges for the R1T, I am curious if current Rivian owners will be considering the upgrade.

I personally am not ready to trade in because my power tonneau still works, and they haven't re-introduced them yet. Also not sure if the Max Pack will really be worth it for me until more information about the charging curve is published. What would get me to trade-in is a higher output quad with the Max pack though. Assuming the horsepower number starts with a 1.

Official Max Pack ranges:

Max Pack 21 inch = 410 Miles
Max Pack 22 inch = 380 Miles
Max Pack 20 inch = 355 miles
Large Pack 21 inch = 352 miles
Large Pack 22 inch = 341 miles
Large Pack 20 inch = 307 miiles

Nah, 300 miles covers my trips pretty well. If Rivian called me and said "we really like the scratches on your truck, we'll trade you for a max pack", then... probably. My tonneau hasn't worked for a long time anyway. But not worth the cost for me to upgrade.

I wont be trading in my current large pack quad anytime soon, but will highly consider a max pack quad when this current R1T is due for a trade in a few years.

Could I use an extra 50-100 miles, yes. Do I need it, no.

I have no plans to upgrade the current R1 for the NACS connector or anything less than a 500-mile range capacity.

However, I would upgrade for CarPlay and maybe new exterior colors.

Pre-3/1 with original config of Quad-Max and took delivery of Quad-Large last month. What I paid for it, it’s a steal in context of current prices and what a Performance Dual-Max would have cost. Have no desire to “trade up”. The cost to benefit ratio doesn’t compute. If Dual, with all of the watering down, was 800V… then it would be compelling.

Plus, with registration and fees, Performance Dual-Max would have put me very close to the 100k mark. And that is just too much to spend in this economy for just 40-50 miles more.

Will likely wait until the R1T refresh is out with more updates than just the battery. Eg quad enduros, 800v?, heat pump, etc.

Wait till 2025 or so.

But, the extra range from max pack is great!

Max - Quad will need to be redesign to fit.

I think the switch to NACS makes 800V an even bigger unknown, considering not a single public Tesla station in the US supports it natively yet.

Yet. If they are working on it in parallel and for R2… much can happen by 2026.

For me the $10k for 50ish miles just doesn't make it worth it over the Large. Also, I had pre 3/1 pricing, plus the $7500 tax credit. Given my budget, I think at current prices I might be a customer for a regular dual motor Large pack, or I would wait to see what the R2 holds.

Nope. For the 20" ATs you're talking 284 vs 355 EPA, but the dual is automatically cutting out the rear motor under low load, so it's really equivalent to using Conserve mode. I'd bet while towing you won't see much of the added range, maybe 20 miles max. Unless the charging curve on the max pack is significantly better it won't be worth it to me. Maybe once they go to the 2nd gen platform with 800V, heat pump, etc...but by then I'd assume an energy density update as well as Quad Enduro.

If I could get 400+ on 20" ATs, that'd be tempting. That would cut about an hour of charging time out of the trip i make several times a year. The trip is 360 miles, roughly segmented into 150, 100, 110 miles due to current charging infrastructure. A 400+ range would allow ICE like travel, stopping at the 150 mark for a quick charge and bathroom break, then finishing the 210 leg without stopping. It would also allow for driving at 75+ mph instead of keeping it at 70 for efficiency.

But with LG and launch edition, I'm holding out for awhile.

Agree with all of this.

I'm not trading my Quad Large for Dual Max, but I would like to see the Dual Max EPA estimates with the Off-Road Package.

As others have mentioned above, I think Quad Conserve gets about the same range as Dual All-Purpose. I'm not really sure how much additional range the Max Pack adds in the Off-Road Package configuration.

Regardless, I'm quite happy with my Quad Large R1T at pre-3/1/22 pricing. Definitely not buying a Max Pack at current pricing.
