Hi fam,

When I turn my lights off (because it’s daylight and don’t want them on), they turn off for 30-60 secs and then turn back to auto and the lights turn back on.

Anyone else?

DRLs turn on, but not low-beams.

Hmmmm…not sure I know. I see the full stadium oval lit up on the rear of the car ahead of me.
But do you see the two upper lights inside the oval? The ovals themselves and the bar between them are the DRL.

Yeah my oval and bar always on, I think those are DRL. The lights inside the oval are the low/high beams.

I see. I think it’s just the oval and the bar.

Ovals are always lit. Why do you want to turn them off while driving?
Well, very few other cars have their driving lights on, and I don’t want to replace those lights prematurely if I don’t have to. Plus, mild efficiency savings.

If you’re comparing cars from the 80’s and 90’s sure. But it seems every new vehicle for the last 10 years has DRL that can’t be disabled. LED strips, thor’s hammer, angel halos, or Rivian ovals. They all have them. Or maybe I’m missing your point.

Most new cars have DRLs, many of which can't be turned off. Those bulbs are all LED which have hundreds of thousands of hours MTTF. And the efficiency gains would be so infinitesimal that you would never see any difference.

I really wonder if the DRL of cars these days is why so many people fail to turn their lights on at night.

All my vehicles have auto-lights so I just leave them unless they're pissing me off by turning on/off too quickly. I wish those things had a minimum on time of 15+ min.

I think it could be if you go from a car with auto headlight to one without. Seems like most cars with DRL also have auto headlights. Most of the cars i see without lights on are pretty old.

Sorry to bump this one up again, but I received my R1S this past Saturday and I'm experiencing the same thing.

If I set the headlights to OFF (everything in front turns off, even DRL/oval lights/bar) it goes right back to AUTO a very short time later (DRL/bar turns on).

There seems to be no way to keep them off. If that's by design, I understand, but then why give us an option to turn it off?

EDIT: Anecdotally, it seems to turn back on when it is darker (under an overpass), and when it is brighter and I turn the lights OFF, it seems to stay off. But why?
