The trucks like the Ramcharger are a great transition for the sceptical. They will buy them realize that they never fill up and the gas engine is just extra junk they are dragging around and don't need 90% of the time. Then the next vehicle they buy will probably be full electric. I've already seen people doing that with the 4XE.

Maybe you're right.

The pickup truck market is sensitive to range because of towing. They're also sensitive to the current reality that having to charge while towing can be a huge pain in the ass, since the vast majority of charging stations don't support charging while having a trailer attached. There's definitely an untapped market here and right now, RAM is the only one with an entry in it.

I hope the towing concern is the only real obstacle. I see plenty of new ice trucks in the Bay Area that hardly tow.

Seems to me most new truck buyers just need a cheapest to deliver vehicle that’ll enable them to do their work. Unless gas prices go much higher, it still seems the cheapest “cost of goods sold” vehicle for work is the cheapest truck

I work in a shop with a lot of anti EV mechanics trust me there will be a long fight to get some people to understand and believe electric is better. Trucks like this help that.

I believe you, but there is going to be a group of people who will believe whatever the propaganda is over reality until the end of time.

I can understand, the marketing folks at Dodge think this will sell, so why not make it, but the reality is 5 years from now, this truck will be completely pointless.

Time will tell.

I mean, I get it for towing, but adding all the maintenance and potential mechanical issues of an ICE (plus the emissions) to an electric vehicle really seems to defeat the purpose of having an electric vehicle.

Why not just stick to an ICE if you need significant towing capability? The EV market will get there within a few years IMO.

All else equal, I hope this vehicle does well, because I think it’ll be better for the environment, net/net.

But, the humor isn’t lost on me that at RAM HQ, one side of the room is saying: “Future is EV!” The other side saying: “Gas is king!” Then, they compromise and say: “Fine! Let’s just put them together, ok!” ?

Driving through the gate this morning and the guard, who I've never talked to before, asks me if I have heard about the new Ram truck that "will charge itself."

I think this will flip a lot of skeptics or people on the fence.

Ram has got the right idea bringing the masses into EV’s. Fantastic selection of powertrains. I owned a 2022 Ram TRX for about a year prior to my R1T showing up. I can say that the interiors and general fit and finish was excellent. I loved it. Very well made truck and nothing like the previous generation. I look forward to the day I have a compelling reason to get another Ram.

The R1T is one awesome truck, but I do sometimes miss having a full size truck.

I’m not so sure about that. Stopping to charge sucks, also cost per mile when using fast chargers isn’t really that advantageous compared to gas. If I can charge at home for 90% of my driving but then generate my own electricity and not have to stop to charge or deal with a trailer while charging then I see that as a huge advantage.

Time will tell on how efficient the motor is in generating electricity but there are some very real practical wins here.

My sisters TRX was a huge failure.

The suspension was constantly throwing errors. The dealership couldn't fix it and finally bought it back.

It's just odd to me...like this still has a V6 with moving parts, maintenance, and emissions.

I agree with this. The Ram interiors beat Ford/GM/Toyota. The quality of materials and fit/finish of our 2019 Limited was even a step above our R1S.

Does it really suck?

I haven't had issues with it. I guess I haven't done a cross country road trip yet, but how often does one do that?

Also, this still has a V6 that needs gas, oil, maintenance, emits carbon, etc.

Thats funny to me because that's the exact reason I went with the Rivian not the TRX is I didn't want a huge truck.

Like the gas tank in the i3 hybrid only being 100 miles of range. The Ramcharger has a full size tank (27 gallons)

I suspect towing will see poor mileage and it needs it.
