I configured my R1S a couple weeks ago. I got range anxiety and changed my battery from the large to the max pack a few days ago. I am getting the impression that the max pack will delay delivery. What are the experience of the members here regarding the waiting time from configuration to delivery for the max pack battery R1S? Thanks

Not necessarily. Although remember that it's only an additional 11-14kwh depending on who you ask. So not a great value. And certainly it's yet to be seen if anyone can hit the actual 400 mile claim.

Irrational fears…
I’m a victim
My rational self said large pack
My OCD self said max pack
My anxiety self said change to the max pack and sleep better especially during the winter months

I’d say the max pack will have much lower value once Rivian gets access to the Superchargers. If you have to travel heavily in your Rivian before the Supercharger access happens, get the max pack. Otherwise, don’t.

With the 400-mile claim and the 2.5 miles per kWh best-case scenario, the max pack has to add at least 30 kWh.

Yep, I know what the math says and I know what rivian claims. It's not 30kwh or even close to that. Those vehicles aren't going 400 miles in any real world scenario.

they are delivering max pack so it hopefully shouldn't delay too much. I have shard my opinions on max pack at length. Miss Go Electric has a max pack and she is getting nowhere near the 400 mile claim in her R1T. 2.18 mi per kwh x 142 kwh usable for max pack gets you a max range of 310 miles if you run it from 100% all the way to zero. 355 miles if you get 2.5 mi per kwh. Something is not adding up with Rivian claims for max pack but I know some folks are willing to pay 10k for the extra 14kwh or so...and if your okay with that I say go for it.

A dude above your post claims 3 miles per kWh. Lol.

I’ve hit 3.0 miles per kw in my R1T for a full range of 360 miles. 2.5 is average for me, far from being a best case scenario

https://insideevs.com/news/628725/rivian-r1t-owner-efficiency-vs-temperature/#:~:text=As we can see, the, only half of the value.

The cost vs benefit of the Max Pack does not work out for me. And I live in MN with sub-zero winter temperatures.
The large pack doesn’t work out for me until Rivian gets access to the Superchargers. Hence, I’m in wait mode.

I got 340 on 21’s with quad so per EPA conditions 400 is very doable. however I agree that 320 to 360 is more likely at 70 mph etc.

instead of city and highway like ICE they need to represent best case (epa) and 5 over speed limit at 20 degrees.

Just assuming for 1 second that it is an extra 30kwh (which it isn't), that's 165kwh, which is 500 miles at 3 miles/kWh.

Which can be achieved if you are driving under 30mph. I'll conceed that no problem.

That's why I like Kyle's OOSM tests.

We averaged about 2.45 mi/kWh at a mix of 70-80 mph today on our R1S PDM MP. That would be 340+ miles with a 140 kWh pack.

I believe the usable capacity of the Large Pack is 127 kWh. That means the Max has to be 148 kWh usable unless Rivian is playing around with the EPA test to fake 400 miles of range.

I can't believe nobody has been able to verify the actual Max Pack usable capacity yet.
