I will say there are some pretty valuable Cybertruck use cases out there

  1. When you need to haul very specifically sized 4x6 items
  2. When your daily route requires you to race a Porsche 911 while towing a Porsche 911
  3. When you regularly have to go into a war zone. Just make sure they don't hit the tires though since you can't easily carry a spare and have no air compressor
  4. When you have a need to pay 12k so your truck can run stop signs on it's own and try to run you into parked cars
  5. When you are so sure you know where you headed that the damn rear view mirror gets in the way of your progress by letting you see behind you
  6. When you have a deep internal desire to brag about the size of.... Your wiper
  7. Most importantly... When you have a need to spend 100k in the hopes that Daddy Elon might retweet one of your 30,000 posts about your cybertruck!
Not one video was shown of the Cybertruck off-roading, even a tiny obstacle. Wonder why.

Or, a video of it fording a shallow body of water, which should be a piece of cake for a vehicle that can serve as a temporary boat.

To be fair, I owned the Hummer EV for two months and GM was still dragging their feet about Extract Mode. I never got to experience it. Required a software update and a sensor replacement to get it working.

The Cybertruck could be in the same boat (pun intended) here, but then Tesla isn't being honest about it like GM was. GM said it wasn't available until later, well before my purchase.

If Tesla did happen to pre-plan the range extender battery, they might also have serious concerns about that interface sealing properly in all conditions/situations after GM's problems with the Hummer packs.

Rivian had specific fording depth targets and tested towards them a lot. We got to see a lot of the early testing videos while we were waiting for our R1 vehicles. Maybe Tesla spent time and energy doing those, but it doesn't seem likely that they would share it. They don't need to.

What about any off-roading videos? Hells Gate anyone?

Which reminds me: Has anyone seen the electric outboard motor that attaches to the tow hitch on the Cybertruck accessories page, yet?

If Tesla actually delivers more than just 10, I would be surprised to not see a video of one there in the next 6-8 months. Unless it can't make it up it. But heck, an effectively stock Kia Sorento can do it if you ignore minor body damage.

Love to see it try with its amazing steer by wire wheel control. Where the steering wheel won’t turn more than half way. Don’t see how anyone will get the necessary precision wheel placement with that input.

Its called the Cyberpaddle .. which is just a bigger version of the cyberspoon .. similar to the way they designed the Model Y by just blowing up the engineering drawing of the model 3

Obviously it's very subjective, but I think many of us will agree with these sentiments:

Tesla’s Cybertruck looks insane, but I’m still holding out for the Rivian R2

Of course, there's no way the R2 will be $40k. Maybe $50k, after incentives. Still, that's a better price point. The main reason behind my (minor) complaints about the R1 is that I expect near perfection for the high price. I'd be more forgiving at $50k. I'd also happily give up some bells and whistles. Added complexity means more stuff that can fail.
I am with him. As a hygge minimalist as I call myself, Rivian minimalism is hygge; not the dystopian minimalism in cybertruck; but I do like some cool stuff in CT. I do want it to fail for the sake of space Karen; but I shouldn’t be. Anyhow, I am looking forward to R2 for my kids.

I'm personally done paying attention to these all these BS promises from manufacturers. Waited 4 years for CT and the price is garbage. I'm well into 3 years waiting on Rivian and they just emailed me to say my truck is now scheduled for April 2025 because service center is delayed. Prob going to just buy a hybrid Tacoma and circle back around in five years to see what's what.

Did you get the email offering the option of delivery if you live somewhere outside of a service center radius?

CT fans are bragging about the 48v system, but they probably only used it to power that wiper. 3 swipes and a regular 12v battery would be at 0%.
That change is purely to several money by reducing build cost. Doesn’t nothing for the customer - other than making it hard to find accessories that run on 48v?

Why couldn't the author just say the Cybertruck is a miss for them, and they changed their mind on it once the real specs or final design were announced. Everything about the R2 is just a guess at this point, its a cop out to say you are holding out for it over a vehicle that is somewhat "real" and "in production"

They were holding out for the CT, what's another 2 years?

But, even a ~$55K R2 would be same price as the lowest trim CT because of CT’s tax credit eligibility.

We obviously dont know what the specs of an R2 truck would be, but I can’t imagine it being close to the CT RWD and R1T dual standard pack.

A $61K RWD CT minus federal and any state tax credits is a screaming good value for what it offers. If the design does not turn you off.

This is where Tesla’s advantage of having their own battery factories prove to be an advantage. It’s going to be difficult for any car brand come anywhere close to Tesla’s cost, and consequently price.

I just went to a Volvo dealer to take a look at the EX30, and it was nice. But, when comparing its price to a Model 3 or Y, the specs just don't compare remotely. There’s an immediate known cost to go to another brand if I wanted to hate getting another Tesla.

That video is entertainingly funny, even if it is pure fantasy with no basis in physics or the real world.

I think it took significant time to produce and probably the biggest real-world take-away is that certain people feel really threatened by the release of Cybertruck.

I don't know why it has to be an "us" vs. "them" mentality as the real products being displaced by both the R1T and the Cybertruck are ICE trucks and SUVs, not other EV's which will continue to grow market share. The cartoon would have been even more impactful if the rock climbers' truck at the end was an ICE truck but, obviously, the producers felt more threatened by Tesla, or perhaps they were ICE interests trying to pit Rivian against Tesla or trying to build upon the narrative that the Cybertruck is a clown car.
A few things. Yeah, it is funny. The two baseball-breaks in the Tesla windows came with excellent comic timing, for instance.

The Cybertruck is meant to be threatening, though. Not metaphysically, but here and now physically. All those sharp angles and the bulletproof thing are features for bullies, in 2000's America. it's a natural reaction to want to take a bully down.

But the other thing that I find troubling - I look at people who want to drive in such settings as vandals. It's weirdly at odds with the EV mentality to me. I want a pick-up because I can take bikes in the back and go places without the large footprint. Part of the Rivian image seems more comfortable than I am with a big footprint.

Acknowledging here that this video was apparently a fan video, not a Rivian-produced feature. Indeed, the drive up the side of a mountain could have been the tip-off that this was an adolescent fantasy.
