Nice write up! Appreciate the effort and information!

@EV Sportline

What length USB-C cable would you recommend for the cleanest installation to the 12V outlet under the center stack?

My R1T has that lovely 12V but my R1S does not.

@jebinc would you be able to see if it’s possible to screen mirror, via AirPlay or any other way, movies that are available via your phone (purchased and downloaded to the phone via Apple TV iTunes or Netflix or Amazon or whatever other options, and / or streaming but not downloaded)? I imagine EVSportline can’t, for liability reasons. I’ve Googled it, of course, and it seems iffy (multiple steps, odd apps as intermediaries), for any other CarPlay device.

I will take a look, but I think CarPlay displays, in general, lack the refresh rate for streaming video. Then there is the liability thing you mention.

Nice write up. Watched @evsportline setup video as well. Interest in reviews of the unit.

Only thing that looks clunky (but no way around it for now) is the youtube/airplay. But better to have the ability than not right now.

Might need to think about getting. Could route to the fuse panel, but lucky enough to have the 12v in the cabin.

I decided to go with this setup (links below), as it's super flush and the cable will not have to be coiled. I plan to route down the passenger's side of the UI display so the driver will see nothing, wire wise. BTW, the shortest right angle USB-C to USB-C cable that will work is 2.5 feet. Just measured for you all!

@jebinc - nice job on the write up but admit I didn't read through it all, I am more waiting to hear on your second episode of this series I guess. Specifically I am interested to see how responsive the touch screen is and any quirks issues you encounter.

Though I do admit I wish I had this installed right now as I am about to embark on a long road trip back down to So Cal this weekend.

edit: spelling

Got it; but I did mention in he OP that the screen was responsive, so decent CPU in there.

I ordered the first day they put it up for sale...
...just have to wait!

That's the theme with EV Sportline. I waited months for my rock sliders, now I will wait for the display!

Hey, Brent (in CO) ;) -

While haven't tested anything, I did see a "Media Player" as a menu selection in the display UI. I suspect not streaming, but rather a player of media you have stored on something like a MicroSD card.

UPDATED OP:

To include:

1. Show the bracket as "Pat. Pending"
2. Mention display has @EV Sportline firmware, not some often comical generic asian firmware, with incorrect units, etc.
3. Limited Use Media Player

I will defer to @EV Sportline

32W should be more than enough.... ?

Volts=I*R and Power (W)-V*A.

Given the harness power rating of 5v @ 2.5A, max power out of the charger is only 12.5 watts...

okay, you guys are making me do real engineering ha ha. I tried to measure the power, but it's lower than my clamp amp gauge can measure. It's tiny. So....I need to order a new milliamp gauge to even measure it....i'll report back in a week or so, when i get the gauge.

It's fairly limited from a 'media viewing' perspective, so we don't market this as a feature. You can airplay YouTube. You can play media off your device (ie your own videos on your phone). But you cannot do things like Netflix, HBO, etc - those all have licensing agreement obstacles.

It has to be lower than the rated MAX output of the charger of 12.5W, as noted in the post/math above. :giggle:

airplay youtube, or videos on your device only. Will NOT do Netflix, Amazon, etc - not part of the offering.

Updated OP to reflect this.
