Lots of rust on the Metal bar at the edge of the tonneau cover. Hope that gets fixed before delivery.
I guess maybe, hopefully they have designed that portion of the wall to be user removable for upkeep.
Seems like it should be a pretty straightforward material swap.

Looks like wear and tear from a lot of anchoring and un-anchoring attachments.
I noticed that too. They seem to have beaten the shit out of the bed. There are also some scratches in it. Which I think speaks to the rest of the truck still looking good. I’m assuming they’ve put a lot of hours on the road in it, and the seats look to have minimal wear. Paint still looks good. I do wonder if the quick connect mechanism has improved over time or if we should expect to beat them like this.

Anyone else see a band of what looks like a part with rust in the “box” pic? Any ideas on what that part is?
First off, what a great set of pics!
Especially nice job of capturing the Forest Edge interior, which goes well with the paint. That isn't easy to capture, shooting through the glass like that.

When I look at the "rust" in question, I see three black parts and two stainless parts symmetrically placed within that system. I say system, because it doesn't appear to be the leading edge of the tonneau cover. Rather, the entire length of it seems to be perfectly round and sitting just below the lip of the front wall, indicating it is likely the rolling system on which the tonneau cover extends and retracts from its housing.

All of this talk of rust seems to stem from picture number 10 in the string. Note that this picture is taken from a higher angle than pictures 1 and 2, in which you do not see that "rust" color. Pictures 1 and 2 seem to reveal a picture of the leading edge of the tonneau cover itself, sitting above those potentially rust-colored round parts. That said, I've got nothing regarding that coloration that looks rust-like on that combination of other round parts.

Staying with picture #10, there appears to be a black roller on both the left and right sides, closer to the wall than the center, the same distance from that piece in the center. Even when looking at the small black piece/roller in the center, there appears to be two small stainless steel rollers, one on each side, placed about about one inch from the center piece.

From the low-angle view in pics 1 & 2, we see only the two stainless steel-looking rollers near the center, about three inches apart. Still, I have nothing to explain the colors in pic #10, as other pics reveal green trees, free of Fall colors that could have caused an orange-ish reflection. Also, I didn't see anything in Normal that looked abnormal when testing out the tonneau cover.

Enough already, I rust my case.

With permission from the company, I'd be more than happy to get back to Normal and take several more test drives to see if I can reveal the reason for that color.

Pretty please? ???

You missed a life as an English teacher, sir. Your pun game is strong. Keep em rollin’
Matt,

Thank you for that! There's a story there that we'll share one day, but, as with test drives, it's best not to get ahead of myself.

In the mean time, have a great and safe start to this new year in the classroom. Your kids are fortunate to have you as their teacher. ???

Nice to see the LG looking great out in the real world!

What I think is equally interesting and I hadn't seen called out yet is the choice of bike carrying option. With all the adventure gear and accessories for bikes, the choice here was the old front fork over the tailgate method. And then not even with a bit more elegant accessory one could source from Yakima, Dakine, Thule, Raceface, etc. but with what appears to be a cargo blanket. ?
There's lots of riders that are more capable than me that trust this method day-in, day-out so not judging here. I prefer to keep my bikes as much in the truck bed as possible.

That brings me to a question I've asked at ATL event and of CS but haven't gotten an authoritative response to yet - What impact do accessories and various configurations, like tailgate down, bikes on racks, roof, etc. have on driver assistance/Driver+ abilities?

I know my current '17 Tacoma, just tailgate down makes backup sensors and camera pretty much worthless or worse. I'm hoping Rivian has thought through at least some things like that.

As I've expressed to whomever at Rivian I've communicated to about this, in a perfect world one would be able to change (or vehicle would sense) a change in the envelope. For example, with all the sensors, kayaks on roof would be included in determining potential for collision with obstacle. All engineer at ATL event would offer was that it seemed possible with the sensor design. ATL event was some time ago, however. Recent CS contact simply said accessories won't impair Driver+.

Interesting, black 21’s with the covers removed. I’m still torn between LG and FG, this picture should help with my final decision.

That doesn’t look dampened (moistened? ?)to me. Looks like it’s powered down
Power/electronic release, but just damped (moist?) on the way down. No power up option.

It’s pretty well-controlled then. They must be using a superior damper because the ones I’ve seen on other trucks don’t go down quite as smoothly.

Ooo that feature looks nice.

Whenever my dad borrows my Rebel he constantly slams the tail gate, he just unlocks and lets it slam down. Glad they are building this in to prevent that.
