I have a gun safe that I put my firearm in as well as valuables when I’m perhaps at the beach or going into a location where a firearm is not permitted. It has a cable lock, but I can’t find any place to actually lock the cable in, somewhere in one of the cargo areas, that is permanently fixed to the R1S. Am I missing anything? Has anyone come up with any solutions?

First of all, the whole reason to keep it is for safety, is to have it with you when you need it, so leaving it at home doesn’t solve the problem. Second, what about my wallet? What about any other valuables that I’m taking with me? I could be at the beach, I could be doing some other activity, and want to leave it locked safe in the car. I’ve always had a portable Seif, I’m just looking for a way to secure it to the vehicle.

How about leaving it in your house when you don't need it?
I don't see that as a realistic option for gun owners. Consider transport from home to a gun range for target practice, for example, and suppose you want to combine that with a Home Depot or Walmart run. Would you not want to secure the weapon while you're shopping?

That’s exactly my point. I’ll take it with me everywhere, including into a Walmart or whatever, it’s just that in certain things like the courthouse or the post office you can’t take it in, so I need it locked in the car. Again also if I go to the beach and places like that.

I never looked under the front seats in the Rivian but can you run the cable around the mounting bases? I’ve done that in several other vehicles.

Definitely a possibility, but I was hoping to have it hidden somewhere either in the front

Definitely a possibility, but I was hoping to have it hidden somewhere either in the frunk or under back trunk panel. Out of sight…

I don’t carry a gun but I just lock my wallet in the truck. Don’t see a need for a safe. And can’t they just cut the cable and take the entire safe?

Kids can’t cut the cord or get into the safe, and it’s an added level of security since most thieves here are looking for easy stealing opportunities; they don’t have wire cutters handy. Drug users and panhandlers mostly. I wish I lived where you all do! Sounds much safer.

If it is too dangerous to drive to the beach without a gun, isn't it also going to be too dangerous to be at the beach without a gun? Are badguys are afraid of sand?

Also, as a side question, why haven't you moved to someplace safer? I can't imagine choosing to live in a place that is so dangerous that you can't leave the house without a gun when you have the means to live wherever you want. And anyone buying a Rivian has means. Why choose to live in that kind of fear 24/7?

I have nothing against guns, I just don't understand why occasionally leaving it at home isn't the best solution.

Obviously, there are times I leave it at home, but generally speaking I have one with me or in the car. This isn’t a gun debate. I carry a firearm. The issue is where can I cable lock the safe in the car, preferably out of site. Perhaps someone found a solution.

Off topic: I don't routinely carry a firearm in my vehicle either, but what is the point of trying to debate the merits? The OP is asking a question and either you can be helpful or you can pointlessly inject your own tangential opinion. It's no different from me asking about a rear mat to install for my dog and somebody chiming in to say they really don't find dogs that interesting. Why would you waste everybody's time?

You're not going to change minds or change the world. In fact you're going to solidify preconceptions. Either offer something constructive or ignore the thread. It baffles me.

Back on topic: As far as I can tell, you'd have to cut through some material to access a secure point. I believe this is done by Rivian on the R1S to install the spare tire, for example. I think it's also possible to do in the frunk material. Overall the spare wheel well is probably more secure since the frunk can theoretically be opened by someone who knows how to access the emergency manual pull.

There was talk about replacing the camp speaker with a lockable gun safe but I have not seen any recent posts on it.

Finally! Somebody with a great idea :) I’ll definitely take a look in that part of the wheel well, since I don’t have a spare tire. Definitely not something I would ever use.

I have it cable locked under by back seat and works well. Unfortunately I have an R1T. I know doesn’t help much.
