Privacy During Ownership Transfer

All, I created a video showing how to protect privacy during Rivian ownership transfer after one purchases a used Rivian.

I have seen many folks complain about the previous owner of the vehicle being able to see location and send commands to the vehicle.

My video shows how to disable that capability.

Anything you recommend one does besides the regular (factory reset to remove personal info) when selling? I’m thinking about jumping ship.

I factory reset everything in mine before selling. @Sgt Beavis could maybe provide insight into what he could see of mine before the transfer was completed. I know on my end the app still showed me the vehicle location, charge status, etc but since I deleted my phone as a key in the vehicle menu all the lock/unlock/etc commands were grayed out.

Not that I can think of. If I was the one selling That's exactly what I would do is the factory reset. I would follow that up just by checking all the areas like gear guard footage, the three history items under navigation, save locations, connected Bluetooth devices, saved garage doors. Those are the things that I can think of off the top.

When you disable the location settings I showed in the video, the location option actually completely disappears from the app.

I know this because I purchased my R1T used with 200 miles on it and one of the things I did is turn off those two settings so the previous owner could not track my location. When the ownership transfer went through I had a heck of a time trying to figure out why I couldn't locate the vehicle. I guess old age is catching up with me as I completely forgot about the settings I had turned off. As soon as I turn those settings back on the location option showed up in the app again.

Of course Rivian could likely still access the location and in service mode Rivian is still able to lock and unlock the vehicle. It just disables it from the app.

The only thing I saw of @Thedude on his truck was his first name on the welcome screen. I forgot to turn off the location information after buying the truck but it only two a couple weeks for Rivian to move the truck to my app and ownership.
