I recently switched from stock 21" Pirellis to Atomic AW09 wheels and Michelin LTX Platinums. I may be testing the Costco return policy soon! Despite Michelin advertising these as an EV-ready tire, the Platinum's rolling resistance must be quite high. I don't have much data to go on yet since I only had them installed on 2/29, but so far they haen't been what I expected.

Use ElectraFi's Wh/Mi data on a route I drive frequently, plus a spreadsheet to do the math and adjust for the size difference:
  • Pirelli average Mi/kWh from November through February 28: 2.12
  • Michelin Platinum avg Mi/kWh from Feb 29 to today: 1.92
And this doesn't even take into account the difference in temperature. There were some damn cold weeks in KC from Nov to Feb. My lifetime average on the Pirellis is 2.20 over 28k miles. That includes some trips towing a camper getting under 1.0 for hundreds of miles.

I recently increased the pressure on the Platinums to 63psi. I was running about 53. More data to come.

The ride on the Platinums, being a LT tire, makes me feel like I'm driving my dad's F250...
My experience with the platinums required me to go from 50psi to 65psi before i saw any improvment in efficiency, but at 65, it was plain rough.

I have Recon Grapplers for the last 12k miles and my efficiency is 1.6m/kWH I get 250 miles in a full charge in AP. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so looks like YMMV quite literally.
Do you have the same ones or the LT?

Yeap - that’s why i didn’t go with those. Hear the efficiency is pretty bad.

Sorry, same at the OP. 116S XL. I run them 48psi cold though they have a 50 max psi rating.

They’ve gotten quite loud the last week but the tread is only at 10/32 from the original 13/32.

Also I don’t drive it like I stole it— I’m fairly conservative on these LA streets but I do punch it when I’m on the freeway. Also I live it the foothills so there is some elevation gain which craters my efficiency quickly.
Wow… i thought you had the LT… these are not XL though…

I have 30k on my OEM Pirellis. Saw this post and am looking at the Recon Grapplers, these tires aren't three peak snowflake. Big deal?

This is my first truck, and my first off roader. Have taken this rig to lightly off road, up to big bear it was raining/snowing last weekend, my Pirelli's, even with lowish tread, still performed well.

Can you post a picture of them? Curious what the XL look like vs LT, any visual difference?

It is the right size if coming from a 21 or 22 onto 20" wheels though. I see this Nitto is available in that size as well, both in XL and LT.

275/65R20 is factory size for 20".
275/60R20 is for those built with factory 21" and converting to 20"—with a delta of 0.3% between new tire and original 275/55R21.

As for XL, SL, etc., https://www.corwheels.com/what-does-xl-mean-on-a-tire/. It's a general categorization. You also need to look at the specific wight data for each tire offering, and determine if they meet your vehicle's gross weight.

No I’m fairly conservative in my driving plus LA city driving doesn’t really allow me to let it loose. I was getting 2.14 with the 21’s.

Make sure they are the Recon Grappler AT 275/65/20 116T SL, the other ones are less efficient.

When does it snow and ice over in SoCal? And nearly all ATs on the market have siping in the tread blocks to cope with light to moderate snow/ice. 3MPSF is a honor system tire industry standard (marketing with some degree of testing backing it). Having it doesn't mean the tire is good enough to plow through a blizzard as if the road is dry... the factory Pirelli ATs are prime example. For occasional use in snow/ice, the 3MPSF rating is not critical.

Correct, that is what I was saying. I currently run the 275/60R20 in Nokian Outposts on my truck that originally came with 21s.
