This is also a bit concerning.

Sounds like our $80k trucks may only get partial functionality, unless you pay even more in perpetuity. Literally HATE that kind of business model on vehicles.
So you mean compared to something like a Range Rover (or any non-Tesla EV) where you get new drive modes and features for free after your $80k purchase? Oh wait...

If you look at the charging terms looks like they are partnering with charge point. Do they offer fast charging? I’ve only used/seen the free slow chargers at target and other stores.

Maybe I'm just seeing things I want to see, but does this look a bit darker than LA Silver??

Because we were early adopters; we gave them early funds; we were the cheapest advertising and champions of their brand for going on three years; because we gave them feedback and guidance through forums and questions to assist them get to where they are and where they are going; because it would be a great thing to do to say thank you for our early support; because it would be the right thing to do!

Why are you always so rude?

Certain features and functionality have been claimed to be included for several years (i.e. L2 autonomy). If all of a sudden those things require a subscription in additional to the purchase of the vehicle, it would be frustrating and annoying. It's not about paying for new features that I'm worried about, it's having to pay for things that were expected to be included in the cost of the vehicle originally. Until we know the details, it's hard to say. I stand by my statement that I hate that kind of business model for vehicles.

Pretty sure this is L.A. Silver which is a light silver color and easily picks us tones and hues from its surroundings. In this case, tree shadows are cast on the R1T and make it appear darker in places.

I was just going to point this out. So at least one partnership for now.

Yea, I reluctantly agree. But a boy can dream...

I'm ok with this. You get about a 1 year or so to try it out. If you like, buy it, if not don't. I will see what happens after a year. If there more Rivian super chargers near me, I may want to get it. Lets just see what happens after the trial period ends.

I'm not intending to be rude, I'm just (sarcastically) pointing out how people are really overreacting to this.

All of those things you just mentioned are complete speculation – where did Rivian in the announcement say that L2 autonomy would be tied to membership and removed if you don't pay? Don't freak out unnecessarily about something unconfirmed.

And I'm also pointing out that before the era of EVs, you would spend $80k on a car and it would never change or improve over the life of the vehicle. Your comment was with a tone like "I already spend $80k on this vehicle, isn't that enough? Can't they just improve it and give me more features indefinitely for free?" but it's a bit hypocritical because people for years prior have been buying cars that never improve or get better after you drive them off the lot.

Just trying to shine a spotlight on how silly that reaction sounds is all...

The "membership" has some roadside and charging features I'd expect in their insurance offering. I predict a "bundle and save" offer pretty soon here.

if my wife wasn't already convinced, all that I'd need to do is tell her there will be free charging at Target and she would be on board. As if she needed any other reasons to spend an hour and a half there....
