Yes, initialize using the Tesla app if you have a charging membership to get the membership rate. Be patient, sometimes it’s slow to connect. I would use the Magic Dock even if you have an adapter.
I did it! Initiated in app by selecting stall, pushed button on handle till it clicked, pushed in to release adapter, pulled out adapter, plugged into truck. I got the member rate!

Around me in Oregon the SCs are significantly cheaper than EA but along the interstate seems to be less so.

Slightly off topic but I’m driving from Oregon to Massachusetts right now and no matter what I do with the network filter; the truck wants to go to EA stations. Whether I select EA (which I assume means the truck will search only EA), select Tesla only, or select everything but EA it sends me almost exclusively to EA stations. Handpicking Tesla SCs is a PITA.

I think there is a bug with this right now. Same deal with Tesla and Rivian at times - it basically ignores it. If you plot via phone it's better somehow.

Okay I was wondering if that was the case. Thanks for confirming!

Filters in the nav only affect what you see in the nav maps, not what it navigates to. Filters in the app affect what it navigates to.

I sent the following email to Rivian:

The Plug N Charge feature on my R1 is overriding charging sessions that I initiate with the Tesla app, which means I don’t get my membership rate (ie I pay more through Rivian, which is annoying when I specifically bought a one month membership with Tesla to get reduced rates).

There needs to be a way to specify to my vehicle NOT to use PNC - there is no clear delineation in the user experience that helps a user to understand when the charge will happen via the Tesla app or that PNC will take over.

As such, about 2/3 of the charges on my first trip utilizing Superchargers were initiated via PNC even when I didn’t want them to be. I’m on my second trip and I’ve got it down to 1/2, but even being aware of the issue I haven’t been able to get the vehicle to only start off the Tesla app.

Please pass this info onto Wassym and the software team.”

edit: thought I’d add that when using the Tesla app it gives you a screen once you select the stall that tells you to plug in the adapter and plug in the truck. I used to plug in right away and seemed to have PNC take over; now I wait a bit but it still takes over sometimes. Super annoying.
Sometimes you just have to “read the directions”. It’s published information that for the Tesla membership, you have to initiate through the app (to access the membership pricing benefit). While it might be more convenient if Rivian was able to enable PNC, this may be something Tesla won’t allow…..regardless…it’s not Rivian’s fault you didn’t read/understand the information about the Tesla SC membership

Before you are so rude in how you address me (or others) next time, I suggest you read the post more thoroughly. I said in my first sentence I was initiating through the Tesla app. Bye.
