One of the primary reasons we developed our Magnetic Jack Pucks was to prevent the damage caused by improper lifting practices on Rivians. Some shops have made costly mistakes, such as lifting directly on the frame rails, using incorrect port locations, or resorting to random pieces of metal—or even Tesla pucks, which don’t fit. Unfortunately, these incidents have affected many Rivian owners, even at reputable establishments like Discount Tire.

The issue became so widespread that we introduced Jack Point Emblems for the four plastic caps, ensuring shops could easily identify the correct lifting points. Despite claims from some shops that they “know how to lift Rivians,” we’ve seen too many mistakes to count. It’s disappointing, but it underscores the demand for a solution—one that’s led to the sale of nearly 20,000 pucks to date.

The picture below shows the damage caused by a Discount Tire shop attempting to lift a Rivian from the wrong location. It might seem surprising, but we had to create a dedicated emblem to help prevent these mistakes—and it’s made all the difference.

Great idea. Would be nice if those emblems were included with Jack Puck orders or at least an optional add-on at a reduced cost perhaps. Just ordered set of 4 pucks a few weeks ago.

We strive to keep our pricing as competitive as possible, and while offering free shipping adds some cost challenges, we’re always open to feedback and committed to delivering value. Thank you for being a valued customer!

Just another reminder that if you’re letting Discount Tire or any places other than a Rivian SC jack up your car, watch them like a hawk. Even if they give you the dirty look hinting that you’re bothering them. Even if they ensure you they know what they’re doing.

There were older posts about Discount Tire jacking up Rivians at the wrong spot and damaging the undertray or other components.
I thought they should’ve got the memo by now.

It almost happened to my car this past weekend while they rotated the tires. I was running around checking the jack points as 4 guys using 4 floor jacks to jack up the car at the same time. I stopped one of the guy just in time as he was pumping up the floor jack. He lined up the puck to the screw hole instead of removing the flap covering the jack point.
A related issue to watch for is that the tire shop replace the jack point covers after do a tire rotation, etc. Discount Tire has been my go-to shop for over 30 years, but they're human and human's err from time to time. Check the jack point covers before you leave the shop.

If I'm ever going to let DT touch my truck...
  1. I would try to book the first appointment of the day, when the techs are fresh and not rushed/tired/inattentive.
  2. I bring my own magnetic pucks and put them in, before I check in at the counter—and let them know they are already inserted.

I’m surprised no one has approached the process this way before—such valuable insight for the community!

Just don’t try that method with any other brand pucks because the magnets are weaker and the pucks will fall out and misalign. The jackpucks brand pucks have really strong magnets that keep the puck in place much better. I bought another brands puck that is also a sponsor on this site and they do not stay in place well so it is very easy to wind up misaligned when jacking.

My local DT like my previous one are excellent, provide great service.
Still, watching them work on your car is a good thing.
What I always have done with my Teslas and will do with my Rivian as well is prep them beforehand, e.g., install the jack pucks or pads myself, myself drive them into the sevice bay, put my Teslas in jack mode, etc. All DT techs do is jack up and work on tires Repeat proces in reverse, drive out when finished. Never have had a problem.

There is just no way in that proverbial place that I would ever take my R1S to a SC for a tire job, let alone to my nearest one 300 miles away.

Another reason why I never take my cars to discount tire. I get my tires drop shipped from tirerack to my nearest tirerack installer which is more reputable and does everything correctly with road force balancing. Only take a discount car to discount tire tbh... Techs there are not as well experienced in road force balancing and they just want to get you in and out fast. Typically inexperience people in general...

Thank you! Magnets, especially NdFeB rare earth ones, aren’t all the same. Drawing on my experience in rare earth materials in college, as well as use in captial equipment for the semiconductor processing industry, I’ve spec’d the highest-energy magnets, built to endure higher temps (than our competitors) and last longer. Unlike off-the-shelf options that degrade faster, ours are engineered for durability and peak performance.

Count me among the recent orders. Shopping around for a tire place in central PA that will work on a Rivian has been daunting. Let alone where one might end up on an adventure…
I'm near Lancaster and use CJ's Tires for my rotations, but I supply the Jack Pucks AND have the attached document printed and in a protective sleeve for them. I leave both on the driver's seat when I go into give them my fob. I've not had a problem, but I did show them how to do it the first time.

@Matt D. - Love your profile photo. I have twin girls and one has already committed to start at main campus in the fall (Music Major). The other one is waffling between Ohio State (gasp!) and Penn State (where she's also been admitted). It seems that she's leaning toward PSU...

Thanks for the info! I’m near Hershey. Having trouble finding anyone trustworthy around here even willing to try. Even the Costco in Harrisburg says it won’t be until this summer until they will work on a Rivian.

I’ve been brainwashing my twins to go to Penn State (my alma mater) since they day they were born ?.

I'm in Lititz...You're welcome to make an appointment at my CJ's Tire in Lititz - They know what to do but you need to bring your own pucks (or let me know when you'll be there and I'll bring mine for you). Lititz isn't a bad drive from Hershey.

Good luck with your twins - I really can't imagine mine going to different schools. My PSU indoctrination with them started early with football and women's volleyball games. Seems to have worked - they both wanted schools with big sports programs. Zoe will hear back from Ohio State on January 24th and will make her final decision then.

The emblems are sold out. Any idea when they will return? I'd like to order a set. Thanks

Thank you! We hit a tiny hiccup on Shopify, but it’s all sorted now. Plenty of inventory, so everyone’s good to go! ?

My suggestion if you’re going to take it to a chain store is to speak with the manager first and make sure they have all the tools and know the correct procedures.

I will have to tell you the story about how I drove my Chevy Bolt EV to Costco to get a flat fixed. It had to be towed out of there on a flatbed. Turns out Michelin dealers don’t know how to fix self sealing tires.

it was holding air …not for long when I took it in. They reamed it out good. Air was coming out as quick as they could put it in.
