LOL - and what are you going to plug it into?

You need a 240v outlet at your house. You can plug into a 120v outlet, but it will charge at about 3 miles an hour. 240 will charge at about 16 miles per hour. Rivian Charger will charge at about 27 miles per hour.

If you don't have a 240v outlet on the side of house or in the garage you will plug into 120v until you get a charger installed or a 240v outlet installed.

Read Rivian Portable Charger - Gear Shop - Rivian

You have to have an outlet to plug one of the two plugs.

You Home Depot is just an extension cord. No idea what you bought it for or use it for.
The Home Depot cord is what I use for my generator. I already have it. It’s hardwired into my panel. I didn’t know whether there was an adapter (female to female) until I got my charger installed.

I updated the prior comment. My gues is the generator has a 240v outlet. You can charge the rivian from the generator until you get an outlet installed in the garage. That cord allows you to power your house from your generator.

Yes that’s what the cord is for, thanks!!

Thanks for the help everyone. I may not be being clear in my original post. The cord that I have linked to the Home Depot page is all I have. That cord is hard wired into my breaker. I don’t have an outlet. That cord plugs into my generator. I’m looking to see if there is some sort of an adaptor that can connect that cord to the rivian charging cord.
Are you saying you have an extension cord hard wired into a breaker on the panel? And an electrician did it? Extension cords like these are not meant for permanent hard wire installation. What does the panel look like? This is bizarre.

To adapt the plug end, you would need a female-female 14-50R, but I don't think these exist. You'd need to build one. You'd still need to make sure the panel does not have an interlock on it since that breaker is for your generator. If it does, you won't be able to energize it to charge the truck.

Thanks! Makes sense I believe the cord is the same 6 gauge wire I’d run for a 14-50 outlet

You cannot charge from a generator inlet. That is a one way connection for power going from your generator to your house. You cannot pull grid power out of a generator inlet unless there is a very serious safety problem. You should have either a transfer switch or a generator interlock to ensure you cannot back-feed generator power to the grid. Connecting a generator inlet to the grid is extremely dangerous, likely illegal, and creates a severe shock hazard for electrical line workers. That is why you cannot charge from a generator inlet.

Jesus this thread is a nightmare. That plug cannot be used for anything related to EV charging and it is just that simple. If you do not have a female version of that plug to provide power then you don’t have anything that you could plug into for L2 charging. The Rivian can connect to either that type of female receptacle or a regular 120v household outlet for level 1 charging.

Simple and to the point, very appreciated! That is what I suspected but I wasn't sure.

Here is where I will go into speculation based on electrical experience. Most likely that plug leads to an automatic transfer switch. So that when your generator provides power to it, it disabled the input from the grid and enables the generator to power your house. It is built so that it is absolutely safe For both you and for any lineman working downstream from your electrical supply. It can never output power, only receive it.

Depending on the distance from your electrical panel, the cost to install a 240V outlet or permanent EV charger typically varies from $300-$1500. My EVSE is 5’ from my panel, and I did it myself. I was quoted $350 for a pro to do it. I used the portable charger on an outlet for four years and that is fine and I did not need anything else. But I was given a free permanent installed charger so I went ahead and installed it. My motorcycle still uses a portable plug in.

Thanks! You're the best. Your first paragraph is spot on too, by the way - I just lack the technical knowledge to explain it as you did.
