Any preorder holders for GFC’s toppers and RTT’s like myself have gotten their orders?
I haven’t seen them in the Bay Area and having second thoughts about it for a while now.
Wish to see one in the wild before pulling the plug.
If you have one, please share your experience and photos.
Thanks.

I don't have pictures, but I visited GFC, Dirtbox, and SuperPacific at the Colorado Overland Expo a few weeks back.

My impressions changed after seeing them in person. Part of this is admittedly driven by some super-engaged and knowledgeable employees at GFC and some less-knowledgeable sales people with others.

I also briefly chatted with a Rivian GFC owner I met charging at the Grand Junction RAN.

General impressions, in no particular order:

1. I think all are well made and sturdy. None of them gave the impression that they were poorly designed or built. There are differences between them, but I put them in the category of tiny-detail-exaggeration syndrome.

2. I had originally been leaning against the GFC due to the lack of accessories. Seeing them in person put the GFC higher on my list due to the effort they put into aerodynamics, and creating a design around the Rivian (gear tunnel buttons, etc). I didn't learn anything fundamentally new, but I re-prioritized things. The accessories issues are fixable. Bigger design issues are not.

3. Dirtbox used a much thicker canvas material for their tent. I thought this would be a good thing, but it ended up making it dark inside. It felt smaller and uncomfortable, even though they're pretty similar (I think) in dimensions. Airflow didn't seem as good either, but that might have been the time of day I was there. I felt good being in the GFC and cramped in the Dirtbox.

4. The GFC employees were super-excited about their Rivian build. They had a lot of great things to say about it, and were clearly proud of how they engineered it. Part of it was clearly a sales pitch, but there was genuine enthusiasm too.

5. The guys at Dirtbox were less helpful. One was too busy flirting with a blond at the next booth to give me the time of day. I finally go the attention of someone else, and his response was "I don't know Rivian. You can go talk to the CEO hanging out with another vendor three aisles over". Thanks dude.

I don't need a full sales pitch, but not even being willing to talk about the product is a big red flag for me.

6. I've ruled out SuperPacific due to the boxy nature of it. While I can't quantify the range hit, it has to be material. Which is too bad because I genuinely like some of the other things they did with it.

7. The mattress material in the GFC is VASTLY superior to other options.

I'm pretty sold on GFC, even though they were lower in my list when I started the day. I don't think I can actually justify the full price. But I want one.

Hi, I’m in the bay area and love my topper. Here are some photos. We added lights inside where we can switch between bright vs camp (red light) mode.
