I believe they're slow rolling it and will come up with a way to charge for wiring harness replacement in the future.
It would be really irritating if they decided to play it this way. It's not our faults that the company decided to change the wiring harnesses mid-stream after forcefully removing the PTC from our configs. I'll somewhat happily pay $3300...not sure I'd go much higher because they screwed up.

Seeing as they are priced the same in the parts catalog, I'm really surprised they came up with an entirely different harness instead of some plug to cap the two unused items that could've been reused in the future. Poor call by some parts person.

I just picked up my gen1 from the Sheperdsville service center with the new V2 powered tonneau cover installed.

It’s super quiet.

Thanks. I couldn't find any other recordings online of how quiet it is.
I get mine next week.

My R1T (VIN 31xxx) was configured with the PTC but due to parts shortages, it was not included at delivery last June (2024). It was installed at the SC six months later, in early Dec 2024 (assume it was a V1.5) and though noisy, worked properly until a few months ago. The PTC spent most of its life closed, as I rarely needed to cycle it, but now, It now neither closes nor opens properly. The recalibration procedure in the manual does not fix the problem (I've tried every iteration) and the cover is also much more noisy than before.

More concerning is that its operation is no longer smooth and continuous but jerky and somewhat intermittent; I'm never quite sure it will actually open or close. Obviously, it needs to be looked at by Rivian service, but since as noted above, I don't have need to to cycle it very often, I have been dragging my feet in setting up an appointment. I now wonder if a bit more procrastination may be to my benefit, and if waiting until the cover actually fails may result in a V2 replacement rather than a fix to the old cover.

That absolutely has worked in your favor. Rivian is no longer in the tonneau pez dispenser business ;)

All PTC warranty repairs are the rollup V2 tonneau going forward.

That's great to know, and I really hope that's what happens. Not sure it's a lock however, and have a nagging fear that the SC may be able to get things "working" with a forced recalibration and a judicious application of dry lube.

There very well could be 1 person at an office in California or Illinois that looked at it and went "Oh, no wiring harness, guess we can't install it" without asking others "can we install a wiring harness there?" Easy mistake, easy fix.

Has anyone who was told "Does not qualify" had the time to pull panels off and look at existing wiring? I'm pretty sure I've already solved it. Before are without Tonneau on top and with tonneau on bottom for each Gen.

Without Tonneau button/plug is:

With tonneau plug is:

So it's $152.49+labor code 787026010 to make it compatible.
I confirmed this evening, mine indeed is missing the proper harness from below the compressor to the would be PTC.

As you touch on, it's a matter of disconnecting a few components along the driver's side of the bed, their respective clips and plugging in the correct harness.

Also the little composite pucks over each bolt... Suck to remove, at least for the first half dozen.

Of note in case anyone is curious, they are 10mm bolts, and a T50 bit for the tie down portions.

A bit tired, took a second home depot trip because of the T50 bit. I'll try to label some of this in the morning 👍

Ps.
I called Rivian again today about getting the V2, and they said while I wasn't coming up as being compatible, they would determine why at a higher level and get back to me with a possible plan of action. So knowing what I know, I'll just push to get the harness added.

Connector for the bed light along that panel, sorry should have touched on that. It was too short to pull the panel back far enough to get the shots.

Reminds me, I need to reconnect it tomorrow before I put it all back together 🤔

I don't see any wiring harnesses for sales on eBay, but I can order them. I think there's a different one for newer vehicles that has a different plug for latches. But I did see used power tonneau for $600...

@Riviot this comment almost certainly saved me a bunch of grief today. I put a few bolts in last night just to keep the panels in place, I would likely have forgotten to connect that light and put them all back in tightened etc.... then cried.

Cheers sir.

Been there! I've messed with that tailgate latch so many times, I can reassemble blindfolded.

Fight for your right to V2 Tonneau!

My truck is back after a week at the SC getting its fourth and very much hopefully final Tonneau cover! I have a really good feeling about it being the last one this time🤞 It’s so buttery smooth and silent. It’s amazing.

I don’t mean to gloat, but it’s really worth fighting tooth and nail to have the opportunity to get a V2 for all of you with the mysteriously proper-harness-lacking VINs. I’d even consider calling up different SCs to see if you can find one that’ll do it, since I know policies vary more than they probably should from SC to SC.
