I got my R1S today and although I've only driven it about 2 hours, I'm really impressed. I'm coming off of a Lucid Air and although I loved my Lucid, I'm even happier with the Rivian. I've read a few posts that the Lucid s/w is more responsive, but in the short time I've had the Rivian, I haven't found that to be the case at all. And I think the Rivian interface and screen setup is better than the Lucid. The performance is also excellent, although the performance of the Lucid was also excellent.

I have a few initial questions:

1. In using Google Maps, the voice is very low and barely audible. I tried turning it up with the toggle on the right side of the steering wheel, but it still was very low. Am I doing something wrong?
2. Silly question but how do I open the charging port by touch?
3. For cruise control, am I right that you "resume by pushing the stem outward?
4. One thing that I liked about the Lucid is that it displayed how many inches you were when parking (both on the side and in front). I assume the Rivian cannot do that?

Thanks everyone and I'll keep searching these forums for tips!

I don't know.

2. Silly question but how do I open the charging port by touch?
(1) Make sure vehicle is unlocked. (2) Touch the three wavy projections below and behind the charge port.

3. For cruise control, am I right that you "resume by pushing the stem outward?
To the best of my knowledge, there is no "resume" function on Rivian cruise control. At least, not on Gen 1 (2022-2024).

4. One thing that I liked about the Lucid is that it displayed how many inches you were when parking (both on the side and in front). I assume the Rivian cannot do that?
I am pretty good at guessing based on camera images, but I can never guess to the nearest inch and the display doesn't quantify distances.

Best wishes, @RMSko, and welcome to the Rivian family!

There is a separate vlm control for Google maps from the regular speakers, it's on the center screen on the right side, you can also mute it there. I didn't know at first either, but my kids figured it out right away, of course

The scroll wheel on the right isn't for volume. The one on the left is - and it's context-sensitive. So if a driving direction is going and you scroll that wheel, the volume changes for navigation, call volume when on a call, and music when music is playing.

And as mentioned, navigation volume can be changed on the center screen as well.

Awesome, thanks.

On the current release .38 the volume interface changed a bit, you can select the volume and there’s another icon there that opens up all the different volume sliders, this will allow you to adjust the nav volume separately.

This was all great, thanks! One more question: what do you do for a key at a car wash when you want both the interior and exterior cleaned? I saw there is a ”car wash” mode but I’m not exactly sure what it does.

Car wash mode is for external things, like keeping the charge port closed, the door handles retracted, and more. Look up Car Wash mode in your owners guide - either at rivian.com or in your vehicle (it's one of the apps available at the bottom of the center screen when you swipe up).

Use the key cards or, if you have one, the key fob for car washes and valets.

For getting it open for a car wash, or any service for that matter: turn off proximity locking so it’s just simply unlocked.
Or, if you need to leave it there for a while and it’s going to sit outside and need to be locked/unlocked, I keep a key fob in a faraday pouch (so the vehicle doesn’t select that instead of my phone) hidden inside so I never forget to bring one when leaving the vehicle at any sort of service appointment.
