Wow - we’ve got almost 47k miles on our OC interior (Aug23 delivery) and it still looks brand new (in high desert climate of low humidity with heavy mountain biking and dog use). Something is definitely off with yours - either bad batch or aggressive use.

My R1T is from the first batch of Ocean Coast deliveries. Launch Edition. September 2022. I have had it for over three years, and about 35k miles. I take it camping and hiking all the time - that's my main use for the vehicle.

And my Ocean Coast interior still looks brand new. No stains, no tears, no wear marks, etc.

I don't know what's going on with yours, but it's not typical. Even when people complain about wear, those are not the spots that anyone complains about.

Anything you can think of that would be causing wear at those spots? My first thought is kids or dogs, but you would be the one who would know. I don't think the upholstery would just fall apart like that without some source of wear.
My R1T also came in September 2022. Had it for over three years with about 32k miles and my Ocean Coast interior still looks brand new. No stains, no tears, no wear marks, etc.

Thumbs up for Ocean Coast!

It’s on every surface, low touch, high touch. It’s just not fit for purpose. I think that’s exactly the point that it’s happening with ordinary use which means it’s simply not fit for purpose. I have a 2018 Tesla with white seats and not a single knick anywhere. I have a 2019 VW atlas that my kids ride in daily and there is one tiny slit in the drivers seat. So I can assure you that the expectation for carmakers is that humans and animals will be riding in their “adventure” vehicles. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Curious...are you the original owner? Because, that's a lot of wear & tear, and if you are, my question is...why would you wait for it to get that bad before scheduling an appointment w/ an SC?

I've seen a few photos here where a single thread burst on the seat or steering wheel, and they're getting it fixed right away. And not sure why you're pushing the "everyone needs to file a warranty claim" line. If it were a serious defect that affected hundreds or thousands of vehicles, believe me...it would have been discussed here.

It honestly got very bad very quickly. We started noticing small spots that were peeling a couple months ago and it was in the body shop for something unrelated for about a month. When it came back to us, I noticed how bad it had gotten and immediately reached out to them but Rivian is very slow to respond, said I couldn’t get it inspected until February, so I raised hell and insisted they inspect it sooner. Yes, we are the original owners and it’s on every seat, not just the horrible parts I shared here. Most spots are much smaller but clearly will get just as bad pretty quickly. Our dogs have never been in the car and even my kids are extremely rarely in there. It’s just so bizarre! I’m an attorney so I know the right buttons to push but it’s just disappointing this would happen on such an expensive vehicle.

I think everyone should inspect closely. Because this started as small tiny flakes that are easy to brush off at first and think maybe you did cause it somehow. But, when it’s this widespread in the vehicle in even very low touch areas. It’s clearly a warranty issue. Like

This one on the back corner of the seat that is extremely low touch. None of this is consistent with wear and tear, it’s simply a flaw in the material. I’m sure there is some group of vehicles with the same issue but given this just recently became an issue for us after 25k and 1.5 years I imagine others are just getting there…

I had 2025 R1S loaner with Ocean cost and it was really dirty, I even tried cleaning it, the was a small tear in the center console a d the bush was showing underneath.
I have 2 Black mountain interiors 24 R1T amd 26 R1S, I was so glad I made that choice.

How would you know which areas are "low touch" if you're renting out your vehicle on Turo?

I’ve got 25,000 miles on my Gen 1 R1S and my ocean coast interior is holding up well. It’s very durable and easy to clean. I live in Virginia and it can get very hot in the summer. The lighter color is much cooler in the than black.

I've got 40k miles on my Gen1 R1S with Ocean Coast interior and it's holding up perfectly. Easy to clean. I live in Coachella Valley, CA where it's extremely hot. 120deg is not unheard of in the summer, so the lighter color was very important. I had a dark R1S with black interior loaner for a few days last summer, miserable experience, could never cool off the interior. So glad my wife insisted on the light interior. A must for my upcoming R2.
