While visiting the ‘Block’ in Orange,CA I saw a familiar set of chargers just N of the Dave &Busters . I talked to a Rivian employee who said it will be operational this month!

This is about a mile W of the location on the official RAN map.

Great news fo Rivians in CA. And anyone driving the I5 or CA 22 or 57. About a dozen chargers but I wasn’t carefully counting.

Wow, I didn't know they will have them so close to me.

It is odd though they would place them in such a highly populated area, vs in a more remote area where people are doing long road trips. Given the high price of RAN, most people would rather just use a Tesla Supercharger. I haven't touched a RAN since they bumped their prices from $0.36 to mostly over $0.60 now.

It’s likely the location across from multiple freeways that played into this decision. Just wondered why the exact location changed.

Rivian has been adjusting prices constantly. Some locations are as low as $0.27. Rivian roamer has the prices for all of the sites.

"Coming soon" locations have never been exact - they are just rough points on the map. We only find out where they are when someone like you notices them being built, or when someone searches the permits to find the address, or when they go live and the map gets updates.

You need to get out more. That trope is getting old.

Here are prices near me (at noon - prices vary by time):
Nearest open Tesla supercharger: $0.77/kWh
Nearest Rivian charger: $0.53/kWh
Open Tesla supercharger closest to the Rivian charger (10 minutes away): $0.50/kWh
Electrify America closest to the Rivian charger (several blocks away): $0.48/kWh

Moral of the story is that prices vary, sometimes by a lot, Tesla is NOT uniformly cheapest, Rivian is NOT uniformly most expensive. Choose wisely based on the factors that are important to you.

Out of touch just a bit? 60¢+ is the norm around here regardless of network until wee hours when no one is out charging. Even residential rates have gone up. Can we just focus and realize the topic is location not cost of being alive?
Not at all; I live in SoCal where my home rate is over $0.30 super off-peak.

I linked the Rivian Roamer web page which lists the prices at every RAN site in real-time as Rivian has been adjusting them. And I pointed out accurately that some sites are as low as $0.27. This statement was in response to the blanket comment that RAN bumped prices from $0.36 to mostly over $0.60. I didn't do a deep accounting, but even just eyeballing it, most sites are not over $0.60.

That's a nice page. Here's a direct link: https://rivianroamer.com/charging/networks/rivian-adventure-network

Because I can, I did a deeper accounting ...

It looks like, of the 138 currently-open RAN sites, only 4 have a price >=$0.60 for Rivian owners at any time of day. Those are:
Gila Bend, AZ
Holbrook, AZ
San Bernadino, CA
Monticello, MT
Of the 138 currently open,
--
4 (the ones I list above) have a peak rate for Rivian owners >=$0.60 but <$0.65
45 have a peak rate for Rivian owners >=$0.50 but <$0.60
82 have a peak rate for Rivian owners >=$0.40 but <$0.50
7 have a peak rate for Rivian owners >=$0.30 but < $0.40
--
The off-peak rates go as low as $0.26, but I think the peak rates are more important because those are the rates you will most likely encounter.

The most likely peak price for Rivian owners (occurs most often) is $0.47
The median peak price for Rivian owners (half are less, half are greater) is $0.47
The average peak price for Rivian owners is $0.49

So portraying RAN chargers as mostly being >$0.60 is really quite wrong.
A more correct statement would be they're mostly BELOW $0.48.

I do get out quite a bit, but it is always to the same places for road trips. Maybe that plays a big part.

I'm routinely driving to/from Las Vegas and NorCal for work. I typically stop at the same chargers and RAN is ALWAYS more and always 60 cents or more while the Tesla (same time and within a few hundred feet away) is in the 40 cent range.

Now is it possible other parts of the country have RANs which are cheaper/cheaper than Tesla? I'm sure, but not in the areas I travel.

Other than that, I charge at home. In 3 years I think I charged outside of home between NorCal and Vegas at the same few chargers.
