Custom r1s roof rack from uptop overland 4runner rack

So long story short I had a 4runner with an uptop overland alpha roof rack. Love the rack design, took it off when I sold the 4runner and started exploring roof rack options when I get my r1s. I'm not crazy about anything on the market and feel most are way overpriced, so I had the idea to see if I canodify the uptop rack to fit my r1s. I think it's going to work out nicely. I have ordered some megawatt tie down adapters to attach it to the roof. Once those come in I'll work on modifying the mounting feet on the rack and of coarse I'll have to paint the rack because I had it paint matched white to match my 4runner. I haven't decided if I want to paint it black or limestone yet. I did set the rack in my r1s to check fitment and am pretty happy with how it sits. Here are a few pictures with it sitting on the rivian as well as some ai renderings of how it should look. I'll update the thread as make progress. First initial look I'll have to move all 6 mounting points by 6-12" otherwise it looks like it's gonna fit nicely. I'm actually really surprised how similar the roof shape is to the 4runner.

Looks really good, I’d go with the black. You think there are no options now, you should have seen the market back in ‘22 when I moved from a built Cruiser The aero comment is real though, you’ll want to try to optimize so you don’t take a big range hit.

Wind noise is definitely a concern, my goal is to get it mounted as far back as I can without interfering with the fin, and as low to the roof without touching. I'm surprised everyone likes black so much I thought the color match on the side rails looks unique. But black is easier and cheaper.

Well black it is, I have it positioned, mounts modified just have to drill some new mounting points in the rack frame and bolt it on. Doesn't quite fit as well as I hoped, it's a bit high in the front but overall I like it. Can't wait to take it for a spin and check out the wind noise.

Try to find some rubber weather trim that can slip on to the lower edge of the deflector it should help with the noise as well.

Install complete super sturdy I'm really happy with how it turned out, there is a bit of wind noise above 45mph so I'll look for a weather seal and see if it helps.

Ended up going with this rubber seal from Amazon, since my fairing is shaped different I needed a little different profile. I'll report back if it helps with wind noise.

Thrilled to report wind noise was drastically reduced, almost non existent up to 60mph and very minimal to til about 80.

We have loved our r1s so much we are actually in the market for a second for my wife to drive, and of coarse she loves the rack as well (the 4runner with this rack was hers) and unfortunately uptop no longer makes this rack. I got lucky and found one on marketplace used for a great deal so looks like I'll be modifying a second when we find her r1s.
