Custom r1s roof rack from uptop overland 4runner rack

Thrilled to report wind noise was drastically reduced, almost non existent up to 60mph and very minimal to til about 80.

We have loved our r1s so much we are actually in the market for a second for my wife to drive, and of coarse she loves the rack as well (the 4runner with this rack was hers) and unfortunately uptop no longer makes this rack. I got lucky and found one on marketplace used for a great deal so looks like I'll be modifying a second when we find her r1s.

range impact has not gone unnoticed, pre rack I was seeing an average of 2.24m/kwh with 275/60/20 michelin a/s tires. With the rack installed for 1600 miles its sitting at 1.9m/kwh. It definitely made my 700mi round day trip, (to my nearest service center) last weekend, a long day of charging on the road. (the well below freezing temps also didn't help). Overall I expected a range impact and wind noise so I'm still happy with the install. Ill be installing the same rack that I managed to pick up used on marketplace on my wife's new r1s in the next few weeks.

That is not bad I had 1.88m/kwh with my rack. I am getting 1.74m/kwh in the chilly California winter since I changed tires to Toyo open country rt pro.

We finally got my wives roof rack installed, I had hoped she would find a white r1s since the rack was already painted white, but she loved the Limestone, we decided to try paint matching the side rails (using rattle can paint match) since they were already previouslypainted. Unfortunately automotive paint is not our strong point. The color is slightly off and doesn't look great. I have found a powdercoat that matches the limestone nearly perfect so we will likely take the side rails off and have them powdercoated, unless she decides she would rather have them black like mine. Anyway here are some pictures sorry for the poor lighting, also since the weather has warmed up a bit my range is now sitting at 1.99m/kwh with the rack. so im happy with that.
