Are charging stations dynamically added to navigation during trip?

I will be taking a trip Friday during extreme cold in the Chicago area. I'll be coming from central IL to the north suburbs. Playing with the nav, it shows me getting there without a charge, but I'd basically be on electron fumes when I get there, and it seems that the nav calculation isn't factoring the cold at all.

So, if I use this nav plan, will it realize as I'm driving that I'll need charging, and add in the locations dynamically?

What do you have the destination arrival state of charge set at? Playing with that, along with your driving behavior, etc would determine how often you are scheduled to stop.

And yes...charging stations will be added while you're enroute if you need them - even if they weren't on the plan when you started the trip. The system works really hard to ensure you don't run out of juice. As @COdogman said, clicking the "gear" icon will allow you to change the SOC you want to have at your destination and you can do that while traveling.

We'll often change the destination SOC while traveling. On our way to a location we may want to get there with 20-30% (depending on access to nearby L3 chargers), but on the way home we're good arriving with 10% because we know we have a L2 charger in the garage. You'll see how it works pretty quickly.

Even so, the Rivian navigation system doesn't always have all the charging stations. For example, in the Midwest we have Kwik Trip/Kwik Star chargers that Rivian doesn't have in the Nav. I'd suggest an app called plugshare if you haven't already downloaded it. Plug share has a lot more chargers and even has ratings. It's worth it for peace of mind anyway.

The routing should do the work, but think about downtime there and the trip back (trip to charger etc). I'd suggest having the Plugshare app handy for easy additional charging stations nearby checks, options that might not pull up in vehicle.

It should, but I'd have a backup plan in the back of your mind given the conditions. Find a convenient charger on the route and just plan to stop there if things are looking dicey.

I've found the Rivian nav to err on the conservative side while planning, so you should be fine. I just prefer some extra buffer or backup plan in really inclement weather.

Also make sure you have a plan for getting home if you don't have a charger at your destination.

In difficult conditions I would find what charging is available at about 50% and 75% for the trip described.

I have had charging stops added during a trip. It seems like one was removed once...
I have seen my estimated range at the destination increase and decrease due to traffic slowdowns or lack of traffic when I can go faster.

As long as you’re not driving through a “charging desert,” my advice is to embrace the charging stops on longer trips. Often there’s a restaurant or coffee shop nearby. Plug in, use the rest room, stretch your legs, buy some coffee, relax. The reality of EV ownership (in this generation of EVs) is that charging just takes longer than filling a car with gas, but that, also, that it’s not necessarily a big problem. You can make productive use of that time, often doing things that you might otherwise have done either before leaving or after arriving.

That's a good point. Not sure if the IONNA network shows up, but I find that they offer lower prices than anyone else (with the possible exception of Tesla with membership).

Ionna is now one of the networks that can be used during route planning in the vehicle or the Rivian app.

At a low state of charge it'll be like a leisurely gas stop to give it a splash and let you stretch for a bit. Put it in conserve and you'll be fine. The Max pack is a beast.

The earlier you add your charging stop, during your drive, the better. That way, the vehicle will know to pre-condition the battery before you get there.
