$2500 Autonomy+ one time purchase now an option on Rivian configurator

Does anyone anticipate Rivian increasing this price in the near future (monthly rate) or when they improve or iterate within Autonomy+? My wife uses UHF but I don't really, so she is thinking we should pay for it. Like many in this thread I would want functionality improved, but I'm worried that they'd increase the monthly cost making a 2500 dollar investment more of a deal now. I realize we don't know for sure, just want to pulse other members for their thoughts.

It seems to me there will be a desire to raise the monthly fee but I think it won't happen often. If at all, it will be after major improvements are made and probably not more than yearly (if even that frequently).

I think $50/year will last for at least 2 years.

Maybe they will charge more for L4 when that finally works. Autonomy+++.

Well Donald. I reckon that i am an old curmudgeon And, as such, I really do not have any interest in self driving features. If others do, that, of course, is fine with me. Somehow I cannot fail to believe that some of these features will factor into the cost of an R2 even if I were to get the most basic model that does not include them. Perhaps I am wrong there but it seems logical to me. I actually prefer the driving experience and the notion that I am paying attention to what is happening around me. The notion that machines should take over most or all of our functionality is unsettling to me. This is a slippery slope. But then , once again, i am a dinosaur. And I realize it.
And the whole RJ pay package is not in line with what he has been preaching.
However, I certainly do appreciate what rivian is working towards in general. I am, for the most part, very satisfied with my R1T and hope to keep it for many years.

TBH, I’m not going to pay as just not good enough where I generally drive (many single lane mtn rds.) Happy to have acc + lane assist for long drives.

I do see commuters using this a lot and know of many T drivers that like their version to get them home after some cocktails. Neither really my driving needs

I feel the same way. I own property around 1K mi apart as well, and split time between them. Driving on the interstate is dangerous for long periods of time, at least in my case. It is way more mentally tiring than most people give it credit for, and realistically, no one is maintaining the level of focus necessary for that long, as well on the 10th hour as they do the 1st hour.

By outsourcing some of the easy repetitive tasks like keeping the car centered in the lane, you reduce the mental load substantially, and I find the ability to stay focused is greatly enhanced. Not only that, but I arrive at my destination in a much lower state of fatigue. I rarely use these self-driving features anywhere other than the interstate on long trips.

Rivian's driver assist, or similar technologies, does enhance safety on long trips.

It works great in my area on everything I've used it on. It works on almost every road on my commute, whereas I only get about a mile and a half that supercruise in my 24' denali works on.

I still don't plan on subscribing to it until it has any sort of eyes-off though.

And since eyes off won't be this generation, I think Rivian is alienating a very large swath of owner base here.

You know they will! The rub about buying Autonomy+ now is how long you’re keeping your rivian so it’s worth buying now at $2500. Will your current hardware support what Autonomy+ can/will offer in the near future.

It’s nice that it’s there if/when you need it but I enjoy driving.

I’m in the minority here, I am enjoying the UHF features. It works well everywhere I’ve used it. Coming from Comma3x in a Honda Passport and Model 3 before that, my R1T does a great job of keeping itself in the lane and following cars. I like having that ability after having it for the past few years and I’ll be getting Autonomy+ for my truck. I knew going in that it was a subscription option.

I do like the hands fee aspect, but lane centering is not very good and auto lane changing is only smooth in the "Chill" setting. The "Chill" setting is too chill with following distance. It leaves so much space between me and the next car an entire funeral procession could merge in in front of me.

Auto lane change is also way too conservative - even if I am obviously clear of the vehicle in the next lane, it won't change. So I sit there, with the blinker on, looking like an idiot while I wait for my truck to decide it is time to change lanes. Bah. I just override it and force the lane change. It only works when I am well past the vehicle I am passing, which when I have traffic behind me is way too long.

They are getting there, but they have a very long way to go to even approach Tesla FSD. And they want us to pay $50 a month? Hard to fathom anyone thinks it is worth it.

Don't get me wrong. I love my Rivian. And I do appreciate what they have provided so far. It just isn't worth $50 a month. I want UHF to be worth that price, and then I will buy it. And I was really hoping they would get closer with the next update. Doesn't sound like they are any closer at all.

agree, but, it doesn’t start being paid until 4/3 right? So we could conceivably have one more big update to UHF in mid March ish to convince folks. We shall see…

Really what would be nice is being able to set following distance separate from aggressiveness. I would like to be able to set a greater follow distance than mild on the highway, no reason to follow closer for me. I haven’t had any issues with lane centering, it works really well for me. Never tried the lane change, I like that I can steer over myself and it doesn’t shut off.
