- All makes aside from single handful (Rivian, Tesla, Lucid. Polstar) are direct sales so these are the exceptions and not the norm.
Dealerships also do have a plus...providing a traditional service center that is reliable, with many more locations.

I have owned several BMWs, easily of all legacy brands my favorite buying and servicing experience.

Small sedans have never been great for rear passengers. They're mostly meant as personal transport with packaging priority given to the front row. This is why SUVs/CUVs outsell sedans by a large ratio.

I think it's cool. Interested in how well the software works and whether they will update regularly.

Not much to say. I think they nailed it. The looks will grow on people over time as it always happens with BMW. The specs are on point. Hard to see this failing tbh, assuming the price isn't atrocious. I hope (and truly believe) this will succeed and likely push BMW to go full EV in the coming decade.
I don’t know, still to this day nobody really likes the E60, E65, E90/92 generations design-wise. That’s why the F10 basically went back to an updated design of the E39. The F22 and F87 were the only bright spots in their time because like the F10, it was essentially an updated/modern E30 style/package. Then the whole GT debacle. I think the Chinese were the only ones that really liked those cars(China was the only place I ever saw them in abundance). The newer bucktooth beaver grill is god awful. They went away from everything the diehard BMW fans loved N/A engines understated design etc. I accept that that bucktooth grill is meant to evoke the original Neue Klasse vehicles but it just doesn’t fit IMO. I still love BMW for their history but the newer cars just don’t do it for me.

If their current i models are any indication, not nearly as often as Rivian—2 to 4 updates per year and mostly to fix/improve, instead of adding new features.

Makes sense. Definitely not for me then. That's my issue with legacy car makers. Hardware may be great but software is so so at best. Add the fun of buying through a dealer...

Some BMW dealers are better than others, first-hand experience. But you always pay BMW rate when it comes to service/repairs... not cheap.

Sedan? No thanks.

I do hope it does well and the range pans out. Puts pressure on all the others to make it work better.

Probably needs saying: includes car play and Android Auto. (Ducks)

Cons:
  • Estimated $50k starting price for i3 and $60k iX3 M50
  • Fastest charging rate requires dispensers that can deliver it, which is uncommon in the US. Potential buyers are not paying attention to this detail. Once they buy, they will find out DCFC is not as fast as “promised” unless they use certain networks/sites. Supercharger V3, perhaps most common in the US, can only deliver 250 kW max.
  • It’s a BMW, so a few options will hike prices well above starting
  • It’s a BMW, and like any other legacy OEM, inventory at starting price will be rare.
  • It’s a BMW, you deal with dealers

Impressive stats on paper. But don’t forget reality.
Not to mention that most 800v cars can't hit anywhere near 250kw when charging at a supercharger... So you're limited at the most prevalent charging sites in the US to worse charging than current 400v cars at those sites.

At least in California, there are plenty of 800V charging around that are also reliable. Even the RANs are capable of it. And new 800V chargers are coming online now

95%+ of the market for these cars are people that are going to use DCFC no more than 10 times per year. And at least where I am (Eastern US), 350kw charging isnt super rare at all and will continue to grow. It’s buying future proofing as well

?? The reviews on the iX3 are on YouTube and accessible. Since the i3 is the same platform, batteries, motors and software then the expectation is that it is also top tier. An initial review is already out from a winter testing trip a few weeks ago.

I am not in the market for this vehicle and the looks are not ideal but hardly optimistic to see that this is a good vehicle.
