You asked for a guess: if production ramp up goes well for Rivian, the 30,000th R2 rolls off the line Dec 2026 and the 100,000th R2 rolls off the line for Christmas 2027. If current demand (up to your reservation) goes well for Rivian, they have well over 100,000 R2 reservations and 20% - 25% will stick. So maybe your place in line could be 30,000 - 40,000 and by mid 2027 is possible. However, I hope things go extremely well for Rivian (meaning R2 is what everyone hoped for) and you are actually 50,000 to 60,000 in line AND they somehow still manage to deliver yours before Fall 2027.
You forget to mention out of everyone who has reserved and said they will take delivery, some will wait for lidar, some will wait for tri motor or single motor, and delivery will be based on if you have an R1 and where you live as certain areas in the country will jump ahead of others. California will likely get priority while people in lets say Montana or a state that has direct sales laws or something will likely have lower priority. A lot of factors will change where you are in line.

Just Passing By I hope you are right. I was thinking 30k would be 7 or 8 months of 2026 production. Then in 2027 they won’t be completely focused on production the way traditional autos would be, instead allocating resources towards development of the next advancement. They seem to be focused on their long term goal, not quarterly or annual metrics. If they make your proposed 145k (35k + 110k) by the end of December 2027, I’ll be thrilled!

They can ramp up production at Normal and co time their R&D advances at their CA sites. Not mutually exclusive. Production is an absolutely key metric for the markets since it directly flows into revenue and hopefully profit.

As to the comment about Rivian sandbagging their 2026 number (and they will have 8 not 6 months of production) I would typically agree but I had assume they would sandbag the deliveries to customers by end of first half a bit more than they are doing - with deliveries in mid/late June which is cutting it very close.

I highly doubt there will be a "place in line" for R2.

I expect them to do priority for early adopters for LE and whatever they produce in 2026 but when they ramp in 2027 I think it will be much more of a free for all with shop access going out in large waves until the backlog is cleared. You could very well see a 2026 preorder getting shop access at the same time as a 2024 preorder.

They may try to balance locations to manage load on the service networks, but even that I think will be minimal.

3) Those who are unsure about when Spring or Summer arrives might be one of the individuals in this horrifying but fascinating series of videos:
This video is SO depressing. However, it sure would be nice to know what percentage of people gave correct answers to each question. If they had to ask 100 people for each wrong answer video clip, then not so horribly depressing.

Thank you very much. I guess the good thing is my Mustang Mach E will be fully paid off by then. :)
My Mach-e is paid off, but fortunately, it should have no problem taking care of me until my R2 arrives, whether next month (3 days!) or in 2 more years.

Even though I'm unfamiliar with Rivian's early model bugs, I'm also happy for a bunch of people helping to work those out before I get mine. My mustang is a Gen 2 and most of the kinks were smoothed out by then too.
My Mach-e is a First Edition and has been highly reliable. Some SW bugs fixed with OTA updates. A couple of recalls that only affected me with getting them serviced, and a 12V sudden death at 3 years. The hook that suspends the tonneau cover broke off after warranty, and I don't use the cover anymore (and don't miss it). I've had a Saab, and quite a few Toyota and Lexus vehicles that went longer with less service needed, but the Mach-e has been wonderfully reliable. On the other hand, I will NEVER own another Mercedes or BMW due to maintenance nightmares.

We really like ours as well, and like you have had relatively few real issues. We're still on our first 12V. I ask them to check it every time we're in. I'm just about to pull the trigger on a new one regardless. Software updates have really been the biggest issue for us, along with noisy darn tires once they get past about 20K on them, regardless of how many times they've been rotated, balanced or aligned.

I had my 12V checked by the dealer and got a go-to-go report less than 2 weeks before the 12V was dead (in my garage). Note, however, I live in the Phoenix desert, and the heat is likely responsible for early graves on these 12V SLA batteries, much like extreme frigid conditions often kill non-SLA lead acid 12V within a few years.

Rivian sent this email:

Please go to your account to make sure that the delivery address for your R2 reservation is correct.
In June, we’ll let you know when you can expect to configure and order your R2. In the meantime, thank you for keeping your information up to date.

Anybody with earlier than June, to configure their R2?

Maybe I am misunderstanding what a number of posters are trying to say here, but ...

Seems very much to me like the e-mail says you will find out in June when you are likely to be able to configure, e.g., in June, I will get an e-mail saying: "We estimate you will be able to configure in August of 2029." The e-mails we have received are NOT saying we can configure in June.

Am I misunderstanding something here? Rivian's language seems pretty plain to me.

Most likely, they mean you will be able to configure and place an order starting in June. When that order is fulfilled is a whole different question.
