Wisconsin is one of only two states that have laws that prevent acceptance of the federal funds to put EV charging in place. A bill was passed in the Wisconsin Senate to change that law so the funds could be accessed. The Senate bill was forwarded to the assembly. There are two bills in the Wisconsin assembly that are similar to the Senate bill AB846 and AB847 but were just tabled so it looks like progress on passing them has stalled. Please write, call or email your Assembly Representative to let them know we need to move forward with EV charging in Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin law prohibits anyone other than a utility company from selling electrical power by the kWh.

Thanks
Dennis

From my (amazing) representative...

Dear Darren,

Thank you for reaching out to share your thoughts on EV charging infrastructure, and thank you for signing up for our e-newsletter! I hope you find the newsletter helpful and informative.

On February 22, the State Assembly tabled Assembly Bill 846 and Assembly Bill 847 to allow the Senate versions, known as companion bills, to proceed. The Senate companion bills, Senate Bill 791 and Senate Bill 792, passed the State Assembly, and I was glad to vote in favor of both. During the floor debate on SB 791, the Assembly amended SB 791 before passage, which means that it must return to the State Senate for concurrence. Put more simply, the Senate needs to vote to “agree” with the changes made by the Assembly. If the Senate votes to concur, the bills can go to the Governor to be signed.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this process. Additionally, if you haven’t already, I encourage you to reach out to your State Senator, Sen. Knodl, to share your support for SB 791 and SB 792 and encourage the State Senate to concur with the changes made in the Assembly to allow these bills to progress.

As I mentioned, I was glad to vote in favor of these bills, as I share your support for this critical legislation. I wholeheartedly support the advancement of sustainable transportation in Wisconsin, and I hope to see more state investment in such a crucial industry in the future.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this or any other state-level issues.

Sincerely,

Deb

That is better than what I though was happening, still a delay but progress.

This took long enough but it sounds like it’s moving forward.

I just looked them up and both SB791 and SB792 have passed in both the Assembly and Senate. They just .need to be signed into law.
