Hi NERC Members,
I just joined this club- took delivery of my Gen2 R1S in Feb.
Spent a few months getting to know the new "Riv" in prep for
a Boston -> Philly round-trip drive in Dec/Jan.
I've been gathering various accessories and customizations, but what I really need to figure out is:
CHARGING
Please review the statements below (which represent my understanding of the charging options for Gen2 R1s Rivians) and flag anything I'm missing or have wrong- thanks!
1) CCS - I have a CCS port on my Gen2 R1S, so I can charge at just about all non-Tesla Level 2 or 3 Fast Charging stations
2) Tesla Level 3 - Adapted - Some Tesla Network Level 3 Fast Chargers have a NACS to CCS adapter built-in/available within their charging stations, and most (if not all) of these "pre-adapted" Tesla chargers are included in Rivian's onboard charging station map.
3) Tesla Level 3 - Not-Adapted - The remaining Tesla Network charging stations that do NOT have built-in/on-site available adapters can nevertheless still be used by Rivian owners to charge, provided that the Rivian owner brings along the Rivian-issued NACS DC adapter in the manner shown in the pic below:
4) Level 3 Adapters - So, in order for me to be able to charge at just about any Level 3 Fast Charger, I'll just need to add the official Rivian NACS DC adapter ($250 as of Aug 1 2025 at the Gear Shop https://gearshop.rivian.com/products/nacs-dc-adapter ) or possibly one of the non-Rivian-made knock offs, like this one from $170 A2Z ( https://a2zevshop.com/products/nacs-ccs1 )
5) Non-Level 3 Adapters - And finally, if I find myself near a NACS/Telsa charger that is NOT a Level 3 Fast Charger, but is instead just a Level 2 NACS charger, then I would need a different adapter, like this one https://a2zevshop.com/products/a2z-stellar-plug .
I'm new to this world- I'm probably missing/behind on something. Please review the above and flag for me (and all the other newbees) anything missing from this guide, such as it is.
Many thanks!
