Hey, everybody! I thought I'd create an initial post to kick off this group. I live in West Des Moines, IA and recently bought a used 2022 Rivian R1T -- the "Red Ninja," according to the prior owner's naming of her (I left it). I only have a couple thousand miles on it so far but really love the truck.

This is our second EV, and I love them both. The wife's is a 2025 Mustang in Molten Magenta.

I've been interested in Rivians since I first saw them on Long Way Up with Ewan and Charley back in 2020. My prior ride was a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Oscar Mike edition. Do I miss it? Not even a little bit. Would you miss a leaky roof and leaky head gaskets? I didn't think so.

I love adventure travel more than anything. My day job is interesting but keeps me tied to a desk. The day job is in here:

In the past, I've spent a lot of time traveling on adventure motorcycle trips, mostly covering various Backcountry Discovery Routes, including Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, etc. I still love motorcycling, but I've sorta decided that at my age, it probably makes more sense to start camping off of a Rivian as opposed to a KTM 690. I've contributed enough to the college funds of my local orthopedic surgeon's kids. Oh well, I do have some interesting "aftermarket parts," as well as some interesting stories.

The one bike that I'll likely keep is the one my dog "Trip" rides in. His favorite thing in the world is a long ride in his sidecar.

I'm really interested in transitioning my camping setup to the Rivian. I'm struggling with the idea of spending what you have to spend to get a rooftop tent, which makes me wonder if you can mount an MSR Hubba Hubba on the bed. Hmmmmmm.

Other than the above, I'm big into photography -- not the latest and greatest gear, but old-school photography using gear you work with manually. I used to shoot professionally back in the '80s, but today I shoot what makes me happy.

Anyway, that's enough about me. I'd love to here from others who join this group. Let us know something about you.

Nice to meet ya and thanks for sharing all the above. Very very cool!

I am currently not a Rivian owner, but a VERY VERY big fan & supporter of Rivian's mission, vehicle design/UI and the community associated with it. We have a 2013 Prius V (+/-154K miles) we are looking to replace. I have an R2 reservation, but seeing that I haul materials/yard debri & DIY in the Prius (I use it like a truck :) ), an R1T would be more versatile in support of. We can't afford the large ticket price for a new one with what I would like to see on it. Thus, I am currently leaning towards a lightly used (under 15K miles) Gen 2 R1T Dual motor with OC interior. I am watching the used market now to see how that depredation is tracking for the 2025's. Also started a side business to save up $$ to buy the future truck outright, as we are not big fans of mortgages. We also tend to own our vehicles until the wheels are about to fall off (+10 yrs), thus I will want to get my *ideal spec to enjoy for the long haul. So, if everything goes well as I have estimated, I should be in the hunt to purchase in mid/late Q2 of 2026. May wait until Q3 when the the 2027 model year comes out to see if I can get a 2026 used/ or inventory/demo clear-out. We shall see. Can only hope and keep working & saving to make it happen sooner than later. Looking forward to connecting with more Rivian enthusiasts/owners in the midwest and beyond with the hope of new adventures to come in the community with the Truck.

Nice! As you probably know from owning a Prius, batteries on these vehicles really do last. I just watched a video out of the UK of a guy who had 256K miles on a Tesla Model 3 that he bought new and used in a chauffeur business. The battery was still in fine shape even after A QUARTER OF A MILLION MILES. Who could say that about a gas car? So, longevity of the equipment is not a real issue as long as it is reasonably managed through its like.

This is why I bought a 2022 with 58K miles on it — I can’t see buying at the new prices, but the used market for those coming out of leases is pretty good right now. It was a tough decision for me, as the wife wanted to wait for the R2, but I had a Jeep Wrangler that was going to cost a ton to keep on the road, so the R1T at this point made sense to me.

Best of luck on the search, and keep us updated.
