Well, I called to find out if my 2023 R1T qualified for the Tonneau cover retrofit (Some were produced without the wiring harness necessary and cant accept the new tonneau i guess…) Well, According to the service agent, she checked and mine can take the retrofit. I scheduled an appointment (said its a 3 hour appointment), and I’ll see if anything changes or goes sideways.

Great. My factory original has worked fine for 3 years now

Update: finally got it installed this past week. Process was pretty painless. And while I did have the tonneau as apart of my pre-pandemic configuration, and documented emails about that… since it was removed from my configuration before delivery, they would not offer me any discounts.

I did get a Gen 2 Tri R1S as a loaner, and it was nice to drive, but I prefer my R1T. I did notice that my Gen 1 quad regenerative braking seemed more aggressive than the loaner… which I like (yes, I set up both with the same settings.

As far as the tonneau, it sees to operate nicely for now, will update over time if anything happens. I didn’t realize there would be a new screen option to open and close it from the inside, but that’s a cool perk. It just feels good to finally have my truck configured the way I wanted it at purchase.

Does it operate well in the cold, ice, and snow? (I think my gen 1 PTC died today.)

I mean, i just had it installed, so you might need to give me a year or more to answer. At the moment, yes, it works.

My original PTC failed on a cold day in early December. Since buying the 2022 vehicle in September of 2025, I tried to baby the PTC -- kept it clear of debris, and avoided using it. The SLP service center replaced it in late January with the new model (under warranty). The new one definitely seems better, but I'm still afraid of any hint of debris, snow, dust. So, I brush out the crevices before activation.
