I've been debating going with a purchase of a new R1T Dual Large Performance vs the R1T Dual Max Performance, which currently has a lease discount of $3000. Do you guys recommend leasing the dual max, putting $0 down and just buying it out right after too?
Not sure if this is as compelling...
Saw an R2 for the first time driving on highway 85 in San Jose. Sure looks like a big potential winner to me. I like the mini-R1S look. Way better looking than a Model Y.
FWIW I have a Jeep Gladiator with 35” tires, running boards and grab handles. I find it way easier to get into than the R1T. My kids can get into it really easily too. They do make a big difference.
Not sure about you guys but I’m paranoid already having to drive near Waymo’s here in San Jose now.
Being fully surrounded by these driverless things freaks me out. I get that human drivers around here are likely worse than them, but what happens when a sensor goes awry and kills someone.
The 12V battery issue is not limited to Rivian EVs either. Our Kia EV6 GT bricked twice due to the 12V and then completely fried its main computer at one point. Our Tesla Model 3 had its 12V die within the first 6 months. Hopefully our BMW I4 doesn’t have this issue - so far so good in the...
Still on the market. CarMax didn’t bother to fix the Rivian I reserved. They just released my reservation after a couple of days and sold it to another unsuspecting buyer (it’s an assumption but it was sold immediately after my reservation disappeared). Figured that would happen.
My wife is the one driving the I4. I’m the one driving the Jeep which is pretty much the loudest vehicle made today on a freeway outside of a convertible with its top down. It’s got an aftermarket exhaust to make it even worse🙂.
So I should shut myself up on the noise concerns, though I...
Updating this thread. Still haven’t purchased an R1T yet but I do have a 2023 quad large green R1T with 16K miles at my local CarMax reserved. Reserved just prevents someone else from buying it in case folks aren’t aware. $56K with a $35K trade in value on my Gladiator (which I thought was...
I absolutely hate the front grill on the iX3 to the point I couldn’t buy it.
But our 2025 I4 xdrive40 has been fantastic in its first year. Zero issues and the build quality just feels much better than the other EV manufacturers. The software updates have been pretty smooth too.
I...
Been debating that argument as well. But this is the huge annoyance of having cars now becoming computers. You’re always at risk of going out of support now.
This is why I leased EVs in the past too but I’m just not willing to pay the lease payment on a new one right now. The I4 at...
Thanks all! Tough decision🙂. I could potentially wait this out a bit for more gen 2s to come on the market and depreciate more. I’ll see how the test drive of the gen 1 dual performance goes later this week at CarMax. Still trying to find a gen1 quad to test drive.
Only decision I’ve made so...
Yeah I realized on the 2026 I test drove today I wasn’t using the 1000hp either. I had it in sport mode but from my reading it needs to be in launch mode to access it. Sounds like it was using around 750-850hp without being in launch.
I’m not a big fan of launch modes with a bunch of extra...
Thanks for the helpful info! Yeah I think the gen1 quad is in 1st place at the moment.
I did find a 2023 Performance Dual Motor available to ship for free to test drive at my local Carmax. Will give that one quick test before settling 100% on the quad.
I'm with you on the cost side. Even...
Thanks again everyone: Just got back from my test drive. The San Jose Rivian dealer only had a 2026 Quad to test drive. It definitely is very nice, and if nothing else I can now say I’ve driven a car that costs over $100K for the first time in my life at least🙂.
I was surprised that the...
Thanks Bob. My initial thoughts were to get the 2024 dual motor large pack with the performance upgrade. Seemed like that would meet my power needs enough. Not sure I need 800+ hp but I know these are heavy vehicles too.
