I have a 3.5 year old R1T and switched from the Pirelli's to Michelin Defender on my 21 inch rims. I am not hearing the hum described, I've been pleased with them and they seem the same sound level as the Pirelli's.

I have kept several vehicles (ones driven by my wife and I) for 10 years or more by maintaining them well, and expect to keep my currently 3-year old R1T for at least 10 years. If anything, I expect it to last longer than most ICE vehicles, there is so little maintenance to do on it.
