Nice -- I actually recently got a box and have been mounting it similarly over the bed, didn't require any mods for the Yakima Skybox 18:
The overhang isn't great but the utility is definitely there. Can still see out of the rear view window when put to the side.
For those that have gotten the PTC upgrade from a manual tonneau cover how long did the service take? Am hoping to take the R1 up to Whistler a few days after my scheduled appt
I would say the two big downsides of RTT vs van:
1. No inside hangout space. When the weather is rough (raining, winter) you don't have the same ability to relax with friends like in a van.
2. Can't cook inside. Similar to #1.

Particularly if you're in Western WA you'll have no problem selling them. I would consider keeping the crossbars, they're incredibly versatile if you bike/ski/canoe/haul anything.
Hey, I'm looking into getting a ski box so I can store skis/poles on wet multi-day trips. Are there reasons why having it hang over the bed is undesired? I see a number of threads where people try to avoid that for some reason. Might look slightly awkward but it shouldn't really get in the way...
Took my new General Grabber Arctic tires out skiing this weekend. Anecdotally, they had amazing traction on about 6" of fresh snow & I'm observing ~10-20%+ greater efficiency over the stock 20" Pirellis. It normally takes me ~65-70% for a round trip but this only took me 56% SOC.
