Does the same suspension issue that causes steering wheel shake also cause tire cupping?
TL;DR
I'm going to rehash this thread instead of starting a new one. I'm in search of advice concerning my steering wheel shake. Here's the sequence of events
Config: 2023 R1T, Off-road upgrade
Jan 2025...
I just got back my R1T. They replaced the steering wheel and all four tires. The shake is greatly reduced but not 100% gone. I feel this is acceptable. I may get the road force balance on my own if the shake crops up again.
If it was just the tires, why does Rivian have this “heavier steering wheel” fix? The tech even told me about it on our test drive for me to show him.
Maybe I’ll ask them to balance the tires and say if it fixes the shake I’ll pay for the balance. If it doesn’t fix it, they eat the labor on that
I dropped off my 2023 gen1 R1T last week for the shake starting at 55mph and get worse at higher speed. They started giving me the spiel that the shake is normal and in spec. Got a 2022 R1T loaner and no shake until 85mph.
the loaner has 21” wheels and tires, mine has the 20” open all-terrains...
That might worth the deal. The load rating is higher than the Rivian specific tire, but the speed rating is lower. However, the speed rating is 112mph vs 130mph for the stock ones but that is still higher than the 111mph governor. An installation shop may not like it, but the sounds safe to me
Do we know if manual tonneau covers are shipping or are they still on hold? I'm waiting for the one I paid for with the vehicle for over 6 months now. I don't even have an estimated delivery date.
It's probably a loose wire, but I've also heard a lot of counterfeit breakers and electrical parts are hitting the market. Make sure you buy the replacement from a reputable parts distributor.
Also, if the wire is aluminum you need to use grease on the connection.
I’d bet you’ll use more extra energy from the main battery getting to your destination hauling all this gear than you’d use running the main inverter and powering your equipment that way
