I don't think that's a fair comparison. Rivian is an EV with proprietary software, UI, map, has it's own charger, no Car Play, etc. A working (and top notch) app is much more necessary for Rivian than a standard manufacturer.
The vent issue being an issue makes me laugh at the last two years of debates between reservation holders about manual vents vs. computer controlled vents. One of the main arguments was all of the "potential" issues associated with not having manual controlled vents....and every Rivian fan boy...

If it's purely a practical/number decision, sure that makes sense. But, it's also aesthetic. Personally, I think the 21" and 22" wheels are ugly in person. The 20" ATs look so much better. It's an adventure truck, you want it to look like it!
I have the same hunch as you. I've been pestering Rivian asking for updates on the Dallas service center. I was originally told end of July. I reached out today and they said they would get back to me. They also "confirmed" (taking the position) that the service center is not delaying any DFW...
I am in the exact same position and have the same thought process. If it is a matter of a few more months, I will wait for the Max pack. But, we have no idea if it is a few more months or years. They are more likely to delay Max pack customer deliveries than actually deliver them to customers on...
